Reality savings

The price label on any product or service should be for a product or service free of defects. If there are defects the label should say as much, otherwise the supplier may well be in breach of national laws and statutes. Price is therefore not a feature or characteristic of the product but is a feature of the service associated with it. Price is negotiable for the same quality of product. Some may argue that quality is expensive but in reality, the saving you make on buying low-priced goods could well be eroded by inferior service or differences in the cost of ownership. [Pg.22]

Reality Check Notice that E is the same as E°, +0.216 V. You could have predicted that (and saved a lot of work ), because the overall equation for disproportionation... [Pg.570]

Ultimately, software is bought to accomplish a business result. Therefore, software offerings in pharmaceutical R D ought to somehow accelerate R D productivity, or at least give cost savings along the pipeline. Yet the reality is that most scientific software is not sold on the basis of delivering... [Pg.425]

There are many who are still hopeful that the use of LSD will prove to be such a painless plan that it will save us, if not from our sins, at least from spiritual effort. Men seek to enjoy the fruits of renunciation, although renouncing nothing. They seek to achieve the ends, but to avoid the means, which seem difficult and arduous. The glimpse of reality achieved by psychedelic means or in other ways is only that—a glimpse. We have seen the mountain, and know the direction in which we must go. Repeatedly gazing at the mountain does not satisfy the mountaineer. He must place his own feet upon the... [Pg.180]

Quantum mechanics calculations are more expensive to carry out because they require considerable more computing power and time than molecular mechanics calculations. Consequently, molecular mechanics is the more useful source of the large structures of interest to the medicinal chemist and so this chapter will concentrate on this method. To save time and expense, structures are often built up using information obtained from databases, such as the Cambridge and Brookhaven databases. Information from databases may also be used to check the accuracy of the modelling technique. However, in all cases, the accuracy of the structures obtained will depend on the accuracy of the data used in their determination. Furthermore, it must be appreciated that the molecular models produced by computers are a caricature of reality that simply provide us with a useful picture for design and communication purposes. It is important to realize that we still do not know what molecules actually look like ... [Pg.97]

Automating a conventional tool may not be possible, may be cost prohibited, and may not significantly accelerate the experiment. The alternative is to develop a new tool/s with the time-saving capabilities discussed earlier i.e., reduced sample size and testing time. This route will eventually result in significant methods development to establish a correlation between the conventional test and the HT approach. Often the correlation is not one-to-one with the absolute value from the conventional tools, but the trends are normally aligned. The reality of HT is there is a hand full of HT tools available for evaluating the common properties of common polymers in common applications, and the tool owners will need to establish a correlation between one of these HT tool responses and the desired end-product performance characteristic they want to measure. [Pg.423]

We ve no right to deny our children species access to the wealth of new ideas, says Ishmael. Think of this as the next step in your evolution. Think of the new philosophies and ideas we would develop. The children will be happy. They will still love their parents. They will play with friends. They ll just see more of reality. And they may help us save the Universe. ... [Pg.168]

All of these items reflect more the political reality of life rather than the science. To accept current approaches is to subject products to less than full development and, products and patients to possible future harm. Ultimately the science will prevail. Eventually the choice to be pro- or reactive will have to be made. Doing it right the first time saves money and time while identifying possible problems and hidden benefits of products. [Pg.115]

I don t know you, but based on what you write in your Travel Logs, I like you. Each issue, I enjoy your common-sense, earth-friendly, educated input about issues that affect the Caribbean, but in reality affect us all, everywhere. I love that you touched on how global warming is impacting areas we all visit. Hopefully us common-sense, rational thinkers will soon turn the tide of events and save the planet. Keep up the good work ... [Pg.16]

I conjecture that each side of the amalgamation of order and chaos, of the simultaneity of the rational and irrational in the human brain is of equal physiological importance for human life. We owe to the rational brain (order), the creator of science, our ability to survive in the real world, and we owe to the irrational brain (chaos), the mother of art, our ability to escape from reality. A minority born with an unusually high sensitivity to realize the chaos in their brain will aspire to find their place in art, whereas another minority endowed with a diametrically opposed sensitivity will strive to be productive in science/technology. The overwhelming majority, being devoid of special affinity in either direction, is saved from the irrepressible drives to create something and live in obscurity. [Pg.120]

Since the plastics are produced from petrochemicals derived from hydrocarbons, the motivation to reuse, recycle, or reprocess for energy recovery is primarily driven by an interest in conservation of petroleum resources. Economic factors are also important, but the potential saving of landfill space is more a perception rather than a reality [9]. Most of the categories of vinylic polymers discussed in this chapter are melt-formable, that is, they are thermoplastic materials, rather than nonmelting or thermosetting as are several of the condensation polymers discussed in Chapters 20 and 21. Thus,... [Pg.751]

Catalytic dehydrogenation of paraffins and of ethylbenzene is a commercial reality in numerous applications, from the production of light olefins, heavy olefins, to that of alkenylaromatics. Oxydehydrogenation, on the other hand, is still in the developmental stage, but, if successful, holds great promise on account of its potential energy savings. [Pg.394]

When it comes to their child breaking free of substance abuse or addiction, there is a very important reality that parents must accept they have no actual control over their child s decision to use, or not to use, alcohol or drugs. Desperate to save the young person from possible self-destruction, this statement is an unwelcome one because it sounds like saying there is nothing they can do. Untrue. It is actually the key to understanding the help that they are empowered to give. [Pg.151]
