Many genetic studies in potato have focused on disease resistance. A summary of disease resistance genes and quantitative trait loci in potato has recently been published (Celebi-Toprak et al., 2005b). In addition, major quantitative trait loci have been identified for tuber dormancy (chromosome II), tuber eye depth (chromosome X), flesh color (chromosome IV), tuber shape (chromosome II) and uniformity of tuber shape (chromosome III) (Sliwka et al., 2008).

To date, the genetic origin of low HDL cholesterol has been unraveled only to a minor degree. Family studies in humans have identified at least 30 quantitative trait loci that cover almost all chromosomes. Most known mutations underlying monogenic forms of HDL deficiency have been found in genes that encode proteins involved in the formation, maturation, and catabolism of HDL. 

As pointed out in the introduction the cold acclimation capacity is a quantitative trait and work is just beginning to link such complex traits to molecular markers using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Eventually, also, information about genes involved in environmental stress can be expected from these experiments.
