Quality control instrumental

In the Mooney shearing disk viscometer, a serrated disk is rotated in a sample fixed in a pressurized cavity. The instalment was developed for rubber and other elastomeric materials and is a standard quality control instrument in the rubber industry (ASTM D1646). It is used to measure high viscosities given in arbitrary Mooney units, but usually ca 7.5 x 107 mPa-s at low (ca 1.5 s 1) shear rates.

In fact, the full development of T-H-M-C modelling is still at an early stage. For example, we do not have satisfactory answers to the following questions. Do current codes provide the information that is required How can the codes be validated How can the codes or the approaches in applying them, be modified to fit the ambition of the modelling What kind of quality control instruments need to be introduced ... 

The economic benefit derived from the use of on-line process control and quality control instruments ultimately must be translated into the ability to improve product quality, i.e., improve product specifications and reduce variations in product quality.
