Compared to syringe type or reciprocating pumps, pneumatic amplifier pumps are very cheap. They tend to be rather difficult to dismantle for repairs, and some types are very noisy in operation. Because they do not provide a constant flow of mobile phase, they are not used much in analytical hplc. They can, however, operate at high pressures and flow rates and so are used mainly for packing columns, where high pressures are needed and variations in the flow rate through the column do not matter. 

On the basis of these requirements, a study was initiated by the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) to evaluate nine commercially available tourniquets for applicability to combat use. Of these nine only the seven that were within the mechanical specifications of size and weight were tested. In a report covering the study issued in 2005, Walters et al. concluded that three of the candidate tourniquets met the requirements, the Combat Applications Tourniquet (CAT), the Special Operations Forces Tactical Tourniquet (SOFTT), both are windlass type tourniquets, and the Emergency Military Tourniquet (EMT), which is a hand-operated bulb pump pneumatic type tourniquet. These three were rated as 100% effective in blood flow occlusion. Of these three, the EMT was judged as the least painful, but it was recommended only for medical personnel and not for the field...

Depending on the principle of operation, we shall distinguish four categories of pumps pneumatic pumps, syringe-type pumps, reciprocating pumps and hydraulic amplifier pumps. The principles of operation of these four types are different and will be described briefly.

Industrial applications are also significant users of polyamide. Polyamide is used for manufacture of many different components for industrial machinery and equipment. Applications include bearing cages, pumps, pneumatic connectors and cable chains. PA is also used for fixation products such as fasteners, staples and drills. 

Because of its high mechanical properties under tough service conditions, PA is used for the manufacture of machine components, such as bearing cages, pumps, pneumatic coimectors or cable chains. 

Uses. In architectural and industrial appHcations vibrational isolators are used to reduce transmission of vibration into building stmctures from rotating or reciprocating machinery, such as ventilating fans, pumps, chillers, industrial machinery, and the piping and ductwork coimected to this equipment (6). Vibration isolators also can be used to isolate vibration-sensitive equipment or noise-sensitive areas from sources of vibration. Examples are special pneumatic isolators to protect electron microscopes, and isolators used to support floating concrete floors in recording studios. 

The PEBC at the Tidd Station operates at 1200 kPa (170 psi) and a bed temperature of 860°C (51). A pressure vessel, 13.4 m in diameter by 20.7 m high, houses the combustor and its ancikafies. Coals, which contain ash contents less than about 25%, are blended with dolomite and pumped to the combustor as a paste having a total water content of 20—25%. Coals, which contain ash contents higher than 25%, and dolomite are individually fed pneumatically via separate lock hoppers. Both coal and dolomite are cmshed to 3-mm top size before being fed to the unit. 

From a dynamic-response standpoint, the adjustable speed pump has a dynamic characteristic that is more suitable in process-control apphcations than those characteristics of control valves. The small amphtude response of an adjustable speed pump does not contain the dead baud or the dead time commonly found in the small amphtude response of the control valve. Nonhnearities associated with frictions in the valve and discontinuities in the pneumatic portion of the control-valve instrumentation are not present with electronic...

In many designs, a combination of the choice items are used such as air- and water-cooling, steam and electric driven pumps and electronic and pneumatic instrumentation. As much as possible, these type decisions should be made by results of side studies rather than simple edict. 

Bulk unloading facilities usually must be provided at the treatment plant. Rail cars are constructed for top unloading and therefore require an air supply system and flexible connectors to pneumatically displace the alum from the car. U.S. Department of Transportation regulations concerning chemical tank car unloading should be observed. Tank truck unloading is usually accomplished by gravity or by a truck mounted pump.

A one-piston double-action pump is called a double-acting simplex (since there are older single-action steam and pneumatic driven simplex pumps). 

Fluoroplastic FPs have superior heat and chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties, but only moderate strength. Variations include PTFE, FEP, PFA, CTFE, ECTFE, ETFE, and PVDF. Used for bearings, valves, pumps handling concentrated corrosive chemicals, skillet linings, and as a film over textile webs for inflatables such as pneumatic sheds. Excellent human-tissue compatibility allows its use for medical implants.
