Reciprocating machinery

Uses. In architectural and industrial appHcations vibrational isolators are used to reduce transmission of vibration into building stmctures from rotating or reciprocating machinery, such as ventilating fans, pumps, chillers, industrial machinery, and the piping and ductwork coimected to this equipment (6). Vibration isolators also can be used to isolate vibration-sensitive equipment or noise-sensitive areas from sources of vibration. Examples are special pneumatic isolators to protect electron microscopes, and isolators used to support floating concrete floors in recording studios. [Pg.319]

Velocity considerations are important in rotating or reciprocating machinery systems, because, if the compressible fluid velocity exceeds the speed of sound in the fluid, shock waves can be set up and the results of such conditions are much different than the velocities below... [Pg.110]

This procedure provides detailed instructions on how to repack centrifugal pump packed stuffing boxes or glands. The methodology described here is applicable to other gland sealed units such as valves and reciprocating machinery. [Pg.947]

If compression and expansion of the internal flow is not produced by rotating or reciprocating machinery but by oscillatory motion of the flow, ie wave motion, the jet engine is called a pulse jet... [Pg.527]

Separate out any special case low voltage motors, e.g. extra large motors, large motors driving reciprocating machinery. [Pg.307]

The earlier zinc-chromium oxide catalysts require reaction temperatures of about400°C, and hence pressures of300 atm and above are commonly used. For very large-scale operation (500 tonnes/day or more), the compression/reaction system is very similar to that described for ammonia synthesis. However, large methanol plants are not required in less well-developed areas. The characteristics of compressors are such that smaller high-pressure plants must use reciprocating machinery, which is costlier to instal and maintain. [Pg.370]

Thus, the ICI catalyst could reduce energy requirements by about 10%. Furthermore, the lower compressor duty reduced capital costs for the methanol synthesis plant by about 20%, and a slightly smaller reformer was required. For small scales of operation, the elimination of reciprocating machinery meant even larger notional savings. [Pg.372]

Can the anployee be caught in, on, or between objects (Example an unguarded V-belt, gears, or reciprocating machinery.)... [Pg.72]

The weight of machinery and moving loads should be increased to allow for impact. Some suggested values are 100% for elevator machinery 20% for light machinery, shaft or motor driven 50% for reciprocating machinery or power-driven units. All percentages should be increased or decreased as required by the design specification or manufacturer s recommendation. [Pg.70]

Discharge lighting may also cause a stroboscopic effect where rotating or reciprocating machinery is being used. This effect causes rotating machinery to appear stationary, and we will consider the elimination of this dangerous effect next. [Pg.154]
