Screens, classification

These operations may sometimes be better kno Ti as mist entrainment, decantation, dust collection, filtration, centrifugation, sedimentation, screening, classification, scrubbing, etc. They often involve handling relatively large quantities of one phase in order to collect or separate the other. Therefore the size of the equipment may become very large. For the sake of space and cost it is important that the equipment be specified and rated to Operate as efficiently as possible [9]. This subject will be limited here to the removal or separation of liquid or solid particles from a vapor or gas carrier stream (1. and 3. above) or separation of solid particles from a liquid (item 4j. Reference [56] is a helpful review. [Pg.224]

A general limitation associated with broad-spectrum MIAs is the inconclusive nature of a positive test result. Without the use of a secondary diagnostic assay, it is difficult to attribute a positive response as being elicited by a specific antimicrobial class. More recently, post-screen classification methods selective for the most commonly detected antimicrobial classes (P-lactam, sulfonamide, and tetracyclines) have been described " in direct combination with the PremiTest assay applicable for a range of tissues, milk, egg, and honey. [Pg.163]

It is desirable to classify the particles before they are used in further operations. When the particles are very small the surface area increases and thus the amount of resin required to wet the surface increases. Oversized particles can adversely affect the quality of the final product because of internal flaws in the particles. While some classification is accomplished using air streams, screen classification methods are the most common. In screen classification, the particles are fed over a vibrating flat screen, or a series of screens. The screens may be wire cloth, plates with holes or slots, or plates set on edge. [Pg.373]

Sizing of the cmshed and ground product is a necessary step prior to any mineral processing operation, and in the production of a product having a specific size. Controlling the size of material fed to other equipment is important. AH equipment has an optimum size range of material that it can handle most efficiently. Size separation can be achieved either by screening (for coarser particles) or by classification (for fines) (see also Separation, size). [Pg.398]

Classification of screening operations and the range of separations that can be attained with various screens were given in concise form by Matthews (op. cit., 1971). See Table 19-5. Further details are given under Equipment. Figure 19-14 indicates the size-range applicability of various screen types. [Pg.1770]

The method used for grinding pressed cakes depends upon the nature of the cake, its purity, residual oil, and moisture content. If the whole cake is to be pulverized without removal of fibrous particles, it may be ground in a hammer mill with or without air classification. A 15-kW (20-hp) hammer mill with an air classifier, grinding pressed cake, had a capacity of 136 kg/h (300 Ib/h), 90 percent through No. 200 sieve a 15-kW (20-lm) screen-hammer mill grinding to 0.16-cm (Vi6-in) screen producea 453 kg/h (1000 Ib/h). In many cases the hammer mill is used merely as a preliminaiy disintegrator, followed by an attrition mill. Typical performance of the attrition mill is given in Table 20-25. A finer product may be obtained in a hammer mill in closed circuit with an external screen or classifier. [Pg.1866]

Cbarcoal usually is ground in hammer mills with screen or air classification. For absorption of gases it is usuahy crushed and graded to about No. 16 sieve size. Care should be taken to prevent it from igniting during grinding. [Pg.1872]

The production of aluminum begins with the mining and beneficiation of bauxite. At the mine (usually of the surface type), bauxite ore is removed to a crusher. The crushed ore is then screened and stockpiled, ready for delivery to an alumina plant. In some cases, ore is upgraded by beneficiation (washing, size classification, and separation of liquids and solids) to remove unwanted materials such as clay and silica. [Pg.137]

Air classification Is preferred for fine sizes because screens of 150 mesh and finer are fragile and slow. [Pg.16]

All of the hazard and benchmark criteria developed for the Green Screen are presented in the report, along with information on government and other precedents for classification that were used to help establish the thresholds. The hst of hazard categories and threshold values used to define levels of concern in the Green Screen are presented in Table 8.1. [Pg.287]

More recently (2006) we performed and reported quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling of the same compounds based on their atomic linear indices, for finding fimctions that discriminate between the tyrosinase inhibitor compounds and inactive ones [50]. Discriminant models have been applied and globally good classifications of 93.51 and 92.46% were observed for nonstochastic and stochastic hnear indices best models, respectively, in the training set. The external prediction sets had accuracies of 91.67 and 89.44% [50]. In addition to this, these fitted models have also been employed in the screening of new cycloartane compounds isolated from herbal plants. Good behavior was observed between the theoretical and experimental results. These results provide a tool that can be used in the identification of new tyrosinase inhibitor compounds [50]. [Pg.85]
