Properties and Units

The basis of flow relations is Newton s relation between force, mass, and acceleration, which is [Pg.91]

When F and m are in lb units, the numerical value of the coefficient is gc = 32.174 lb ft/lbf sec2. In some other units, [Pg.91]

Since the common engineering units for both mass and force are 1 lb, it is essential to retain gc in all force-mass relations. The interconversions may be illustrated with the example of viscosity whose basic definition is force/(velocity)(distance). Accordingly the viscosity in various units relative to that in SI units is [Pg.91]

In data books, viscosity may be recorded either in force or mass units. The particular merit of SI units (kg, m, s, N) is that gc = 1 and much confusion can be avoided by consistent use of that system. Some numbers of frequent use in fluid flow problems are [Pg.91]

Data of densities of liquids are empirical in nature, but the effects of temperature, pressure, and composition can be estimated suitable methods are described by Reid et al. (Properties of Gases and Liquids, McGraw Hill, New York, 1977), the API Refining Data Book (American Petroleum Institute, Washington, DC, 1983), and the AIChE Data Prediction Manual (1984-date). The densities of gases are represented by equations of state of which the simplest is that of ideal gases from this the density is given by  [Pg.91]

Flow rates are expressible as linear velocities or in volumetric, mass, or weight units. Symbols for and relations between the several modes are summarized in Table 6.1. [Pg.91]

Dimensions, physical properties, and unit weight of new, conventional drill collars are specified in Tables 4-71, 4-72, and 4-73, respectively. Technical data on square and spiral drill collars are available from manufacturers. [Pg.717]

In 1995, the predecessor of the present Subcommittee, the Commission on Nomenclature, Properties and Units (C-NPU of lECC and lUPAC) started publishing a series of papers on a coding system (i.e., a structure or a framework for the pairs of codes and meaning) and a coding scheme (i.e., the pairs of codes and their meaning), for Properties in Laboratory Medicine. Meanings can be descriptions of properties that are measured or observed in laboratory medicine. The codes offer unique and sufficient information about... [Pg.2926]

The Data Model is extended by the Reference Data Library, RDL (cf. part 4 of ISO 15926). The RDL establishes the different terminologies (i.e., the Reference Data) required for the individual application domains. Particularly for the chemical process industries, taxonomies for the description of materials, plant equipment, physical properties, and units are introduced by refining the classes of the Data Model. The RDL is to be harmonized with the STEPlib hbrary of the AP 221 (cf. Annex M of ISO 10303-221). Currently (as of 2007), merging of these originally independent libraries is still in progress. So far, about 15,000 classes have been defined in the RDL. It is expected that the RDL will contain up to 100,000 standard classes in the end. [Pg.177]

The requirements for the Espace included the production of cAO units per day. As this number tended to fall between those of various GRP processes, Renault established the properties and unit costs for SMC moulding and RTM moulding (Figure 11.4, Table 11.12). [Pg.280]
