Coding Scheme

Obviously the decision variable coding in this chapter can is a hybrid coding. Below the specific coding method for chromosomes will be discussed.

Other difficulties arise from the incorrect treatment of aromaticity, e.g. the tautomeric form C can be also represented as an aromatic compound. However, ALOGPS, for example, does not consider this ring as an aromatic one. Inconsistently defined aromaticity lowers the prediction performance (Fig. 15.ID). The use of SDF files, which do not explicitly define aromaticity solves this problem. All these factors are not limiting when the data are prepared with the same coding scheme and consistency. However, these issues are very important for method application and benchmarking. 

Requirements for audio coding systems. The target for the development of perceptual audio coding schemes can be defined along several criteria. Depending on the application, they are more or less important for the selection of a particular scheme.

Data storage must be accomplished so that applications software can recover and use any specific datum at a later time therefore, the format and coding scheme for data storage must be clearly defined. 

The second requirement is a coding scheme that allows digital data to represent alphanumeric characters. Several such standards already exist, notably the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) and the Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code. ASCII is almost universally used in microcomputer systems and is probably the better choice for development of new systems. 

ASCII Acronym for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A standard coding scheme that assigns numeric values to letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and control characters, to achieve compatibility among different computers and peripherals. 

In this edition, the world of minerals is divided by chemical features into ten classes, each of which is subdivided, on chemical-structural principles, into divisions, subdivisions, groups of isotypic and homeotypic minerals, or individual minerals with unique structure types groups with two or more mineral names comprise minerals with similar structure or composition. The classification system and alphanumeric coding scheme used in this 9 edition of the Strunz Mineralogical Tables were presented at the 1994 IMA meeting in Pisa. They permit the insertion of thousands of new minerals in the future without changing the basic classification framework. 

It is hoped that the small number of classes, the logical classification principles, the specific rendition of chemical formulae, and the alphanumeric coding scheme make it relatively easy for scientists and friends of mineralogy to keep the entire system in mind. 

In 1995, the predecessor of the present Subcommittee, the Commission on Nomenclature, Properties and Units (C-NPU of lECC and lUPAC) started publishing a series of papers on a coding system (i.e., a structure or a framework for the pairs of codes and meaning) and a coding scheme (i.e., the pairs of codes and their meaning), for Properties in Laboratory Medicine. In order to test functionality, the coding scheme has been successfully mapped to the various codes that are presently used in more than 50 medical laboratories in Denmark and Sweden. To accommodate national or local needs special codes can be used. The coding scheme is accessible on the IFCC website. The coding scheme now includes clinical pharmacology and toxicology, and environmental toxicology.
