Engineering units

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) United Engineering Center 345 East 47th Street New York, NY 10017 The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, under the cognisance of the ASME PoHcy Board, Codes, and Standards, considers the interdependence of design procedures, material selection, fabrication procedures, inspection, and test methods that affect the safety of boilers, pressure vessels, and nuclear-plant components, whose failures could endanger the operators or the pubHc (see Nuclearreactors). It does not cover other aspects of these topics that affect operation, maintenance, or nonha2ardous deterioration.

At minimum governor, get another set of vibrational readings. Doeument all readings and observations and file for future referenee with a eopy sent to the unit supervisor and unit engineer. 

Using the drawing(s) of the reactor-regenerator, the unit engineer must be able to go through the pressure balance and determine whether it makes sense. He or she needs to calculate and estimate pressures, densities, pressure buildup in the standpipes, etc. The potential for improvements can be substantial. 

The pressure balance provides an insight into the hydraulics of catalyst circulation. Performing pressure balance surveys will help the unit engineer identify pinch points. It will also balance two common constraints the air blower and the wet gas compressor.

Here is a problem that came up on a sulfur recovery facility in Punto Fijo, Venezuela. The combustion air blower, shown in Fig. 28.8, was a fixed-speed, motor-driven centrifugal machine. The air intake filters were severely fouled. They had a pressure drop of about 8 in H/). The atmospheric vent valve, used to control the discharge pressure at a constant 12 psig, was 50 percent open. The unit engineer had been asked to calculate the incentive in electrical power savings that would result from cleaning the filters.
