Project Planning Process

Does the project follow a formally documented project planning process ... [Pg.435]

It is important to point out that these tools are useful only after the project objectives goals Go/No-Go decisions decision criteria and operating assumptions have been established. The project planning management tools are presented in Table 27.8 in the order in which they would be introduced in a project planning process. [Pg.432]

The Milestones/Schedule element of a PP is very important to clients, owners, and customers. They want certain deliverables at particular times or milestones. However, notice that while you identify milestones at this point in the project planning process. [Pg.181]

Assume that you, as project manager, led the project planning process. You now have the PP, a written, collaboratively-prepared document. You and others, certainly members of your project team and possibly the client, owner, customer, and/or stakeholders, have already obtained value from the PP because of the broad and deep thought that went into preparing it. Now, how do you use the PP Use it throughout project execution. Don t leave it on the shelf The PP is your project s road map, flight plan, or float plan. ... [Pg.188]

A key outcome of the Project Planning Process (see Section 5.2) is the creation of project procedures and processes that specify the forms of V V system assessments in appropriate project schedules and specifications. Verification criteria are generated as requirements are written, and a procedure to assess compliance is mapped out. Project plans, procedures, and standards must define the test resources of equipment, facilities, and personnel. [Pg.69]

The two most important activities of the Project Planning Process are development of the SEMP and assembly of the IPDT. [Pg.74]

This book is designed as a handy desk reference covering fundamental engineering principles of project planning schemes and layout, corrosion principles and materials properties of engineering importance. It is intended as a general source of typical materials property data, useful for first pass materials selection in process design problems. [Pg.196]

Usually, there will be a department or individual with a central role in the planning process. You should spend time with these staff developing an understanding both of the planning process and the evaluation criteria they use for including expenditures in their budgets. If your project has top level backing, some costs may be absorbed by corporate this is most likely to be the case if costs are incurred well ahead of any benefits. [Pg.86]

Other new planning processes are being considered to aid the transition. These include variations of probability analysis, optimum planning tools, and short-lead-time projects. None of these addresses all of the constraints discussed above. This should not, however, be construed as an impossible task. [Pg.1203]

There are many other factors which affect project planning as it is related to process engineering. However, these are usually peculiar to the process or objective of the project. On first glance some of the items listed in Table 1-11 may appear to be unrelated to the process engineering requirements, and this can be the case for some types of projects. In these situations they become more of a project engineering responsibility. However, in many cases these have a relationship either to the process engineering requirements or to the decisions which must take this into account. [Pg.45]

Below, we focus on aids to R D project planning and process improvement, exploring the extent to which IT really can help managers to be more effective in decision making through simulation that fosters the ability to... [Pg.252]

KBW [Koppers Babcock Wilcox] A coal gasification process developed jointly by the Koppers Company and Babcock Wilcox, intended to supply the synthetic fuels industry. The product is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Dry, powdered coal, oxygen, and steam are injected into the reactor. The reaction temperature is sufficiently high that the ash is molten it runs down the reactor walls, is tapped out as a molten slag, and is quenched in water before disposal. In 1984, seven commercial synfuels projects planned to use this process but it is not known whether any was commercialized. [Pg.152]

Project plans and a dedicated project manager are required to coordinate across-site support activities, e.g. project planning, engineering, process development, production, QC (quality control), etc. This is critically important if production scale equipment and operating areas need to be used during the transfer exercise, i.e. the impact on commercial manufacturing schedules. [Pg.23]

Quality Assurance Project Plan for the National Survey of Pesticides in Drinking Water Wells Well Sampling, Data Collection, and Processing... [Pg.177]

The project plan should encompass all aspects of a fire protection system, such as the underground fire water distribution system, fire pumps, aboveground water header, valving and standpipes, structural support, and detection and alarm systems. All work on the fire protection system must be coordinated with other work activities at the site or in the operating unit. The recommended installation practices for the different types of fire protection systems are covered in consensus standards, such as NFPA. The installation process is illustrated in Figure 9-1. [Pg.327]

In the original project plan, after processing all 13 case samples, a more detailed examination of two to three case samples and/or case groups was plarmed in... [Pg.54]

Although the local widening project at the River Thur was primarily a flood protection project, ecological objectives were included in the goal-setting process during the entire planning process. [Pg.253]
