Characteristically, the mechanisms formulated for azide decompositions involve [693,717] exciton formation and/or the participation of mobile electrons, positive holes and interstitial ions. Information concerning the energy requirements for the production, mobility and other relevant properties of these lattice imperfections can often be obtained from spectral data and electrical measurements. The interpretation of decomposition kinetics has often been profitably considered with reference to rates of photolysis. All of these levels are passivated by atomic hydrogen (Pearton and Haller, 1983) suggesting that hydrogen might be profitably used during silicide formation to passivate electrically active levels near the silicon-silicide interface.

If the hydrogen is released into the atmosphere, a conversion to GDE will be profitable down to an electricity price level of 0.025 euro kWh-1. In general, it can be said that a conversion to GDE cathodes will be the more interesting for all applications the higher the electricity price is above this lower limit of 0.025 euro kWh-1. 

By the late 1990s, it was clear that only the big automakers could make the electric car really happen. But, these were the same companies that had disdained electric cars earlier. GM once sued California in the U.S. District Court in Fresno to block imposition of the state s zero-emissions rules. These regulations would require automakers to build thousands of electric vehicles using rechargeable storage battery technology. But, the auto industry contended that conventional, electric-powered cars were too expensive and too limited in range to be profitable. 

These fuel cell cars could be used to provide power and even water to buildings where people live or even work. Commuters could drive their cars to work and connect them to a hydrogen line. While they worked, their cars would be producing electricity, which they could then sell back to the grid. The car, instead of just occupying a parking space, would become a profit generator. 

Detroit s electric cars have a shaky history since the market can change rapidly in the automobile industry, which is dependent on long lead times for new models. In 1975, when memories of the oil embargo were fresh, Detroit s cars were still growing in size, but it was a record sales year for the Volkswagen Beetle and sales of Toyotas and Hondas reached 100,000 that year. GM s profits dropped 35% and the company had to temporarily close 15 of its 22 assembly plants. 

Hence, BEVs are still largely applied in niche markets, such as for inner urban traffic. In this context electric vehicles will further profit from the introduction of environmental zones and toll charges on ICE vehicles in cities.13 Another promising application is the electric two-wheeler (scooter), which is becoming increasingly popular in Asian megacities. 

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) NFPA is non-profit organization that publishes the National Electrical Code , the Life Safety Code , the Fire Prevention Code , the National Fuel Gas Code , and the National Fire Alarm Code . The mission of NFPA is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating scientifically based consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. NFPA is developing a fuel cell specific code, NFPA 853, which will cover the installation of stationary fuel cells of at least 50 kW output. Publication is expected to occur in 2000. 

Our example uses the data from Bowman and Narayandas (2004). The customer firms are more than 300 industrial customers of firms that provide metal processing, fabrication, and distribution services. The customer firms are in industries that include manufacturing, construction, transportation, aerospace, and electrical. As a group, these customers use over sixty different vendors. A sponsoring vendor firm provided financial data and details of its efforts at the customer account level, enabling us to link vendor resource commitments to vendor performance and customer profitability.
