Professional qualifications

Membership of the Institution of Plant Engineers is the hallmark of the professional plant engineer and is often a prerequisite for successful career progression. This will become increasingly so in post-1992 Europe, when evidence of appropriate professional qualifications may be a legal requirement for employment in many engineering appointments. 

EU Directive 75/319/EEC requires that documents submitted for marketing authorization be drawn up and signed by experts with technical and professional qualifications. 

The management must authorize the persormel to perform specific tasks. The relevant authorization(s), competence, educational and professional qualifications, training, skills and experience of all technical persormel, including contracted persormel shall be recorded. This can be done e.g. on an authorization sheet. 

A new device that is specifically made in accordance with a duly qualified medical practitioner s written prescription and which gives, under the practitioner s responsibility, specific design characteristics, and is intended for the sole use of a particular patient is permitted to be marketed without CE marking imder provisions referring to custom-made devices. The prescription may be made by any person authorised by virtue of their professional qualifications to do so. Mass produced devices that need to be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the medical practitioner or any other professional user are not considered to be custom-made devices. 

Credential Documented evidence of professional qualifications. For pharmacists, academic degrees, state licensure, and board certification are examples of credentials. 

These simple test procedures can be executed in any surgery, if the indication is given. A code number could be assigned as the cost-calculation item for health-insurance purposes. It is neither organizationally possible, nor medically justifiable, let alone financially viable to make the implementation and assessment of these tests dependent on a specific professional qualification, such as is acquired in further education programmes. Every doctor is capable of carrying them out ... 

The term trainee may seem pejorative to those doctors who embark on industry careers with high levels of educational and professional qualifications, experience and expertise, and who have gained their positions through competitive selection and expectations of effective contribution. It is used firstly because there is no ready alternative... 

Systems and quality control procedures that are established to ensure that the trial is performed and the data are generated in compliance with GCP and GLP. These include procedures to be followed which apply to ethical and professional conduct, standard operating procedures (SOPs), reporting, and professional qualifications or skills of personnel.

The quality control unit should have an inspection laboratory at its disposal, employing workers with the proper professional qualifications and outfitted with the necessary laboratory apparatus and gear for conducting all necessary control studies of the manufacturing process.

If safety and health audits are to be perceived as having value, the auditors must have the professional qualifications to make them. Safety professionals conducting audits need to consider how well they are prepared for the situation at hand and how best to approach the management personnel in the organization to be audited. Similarly, if persons external to an organization are engaged to make safety audits, the safety professionals hiring them should examine their credentials carefully.
