The reactor requires about 18 professional, 20 ancillary and 50 industrial operating staff. (It is assumed that a professional scientist or engineer has a university degree or equivalent, and ancillary worker has a lower professional qualification, and an industrial worker is trained on the job.) These figures relate to the people required in the reactor area for operation, maintenance, health and hygiene, chemical control, physics services, and housekeeping and exclude stores, workshops and specialist personnel, and make no allowance for scientific effort associated with the experiments in the reactor.
