Professional meetings

All the societies organise professional meetings, and often publish the proceedings in their own journals many of the larger societies publish multiple journals. Most societies also publish a range of professional books. 

Prior to formal publication of the research, the work may be presented as a paper or poster at a professional meeting or conference. Although some professional societies and associations do publish abstracts of papers presented at their conferences in their journals, papers and posters tend to have relatively small exposure and may never appear in the broadly published primary literature. The data and information about an individual drug developed through Phase I, II, and III studies are extremely important to the medical community. For many drugs Phase I, II, and III data may be all, or nearly all, that is available about the clinical use of the drug at the time the product is marketed. During the time the product is in Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III, some of the compound s product and clinical data may be presented at professional meetings, published in preliminary reports, or otherwise made available to the scientific and business communities. However, it is not uncommon for a drug to be approved by FDA without the presence of its clinical research in the published biomedical literature. 

A genetic consultation is a health service that provides information and support to people who have, or may be at risk for, genetic disorders. During a consultation, a genetics professional meets with an individual or family to discuss genetic risks or to diagnose, confirm, or rule out a genetic condition. 

VIII. Employers should allow such employees opportunities to maintain professional expertise through attendance at professional meetings equivalent to at least one week per year and courses of study and leaves of absence for professional study equivalent to two weeks per year.

Nevertheless, these and other data limitations severely restrict our understanding of the experiences of African Americans in the chemistry community. For example, much of the most insightful and interesting data requested from NORC could not be provided or, if provided was of little or no used because of suppressed counts to protect confidentiality. The survey that was provided was for presentations and articles over the past three years. These results show that the median numbers of papers presented by white respondents was two compared to one for black respondents at professional meetings. Each group published a median of one article. An interview questioned the fairness of the so-called peer review journal process. One useful approach to tackle this problem of drug-induced illness caused by bad prescribing is known as academic detailing , in which a trained health professional meets with the physician in his or her office and functions as a source of neutral, academically oriented, evidence-based knowledge (see www.RxFacts.org).

Scientific and technical language is absolutely essential for our professional meetings and in our journals. 

Criteria that are used in professional advancement decisions include publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional meetings. Forty-nine percent of respondents have disseminated materials beyond their own classrooms in a variety of ways. Significant numbers of those who have done so have published woric in peer-reviewed journals (32%), and almost twice as many gave oral presentations of their work at professional meetings (63%). An important component of green chemistry education is the involvement of students in the research programs of faculty members. Material was also distributed by students at professional meetings, primarily as poster presentations. 

The criteria for selecting consultants are directly related to the identified purpose and the person making this selection has the expertise necessary to evaluate whether the healthcare professional meets those criteria. 

All promotional, scientific or professional meetings, congresses, conferences, symposia and other similar events (each an event ) organised or sponsored by a company must be held in an appropriate venue that is conducive to the main purpose of the event and may offer hospitality only when such hospitality is appropriate and otherwise complies with the provisions of any applicable code(s). 

The purpose and focus of all symposia, congresses and other promotional, scientific or professional meetings (an event ) for healthcare professionals, organised or sponsored by a company, should be to inform healthcare professionals about products and/or to provide scientific or educational information.

The edueation and dissemination of information is another primary objective of ISMP—Spain If everyone understands the nature and causes of medication errors, there is a much greater possibility of improving patient safety. In this sense, ISMP—Spain makes educational presentations and holds conferences at healthcare professional meetings to provide information about adverse drug events. ISMP—Spain also publishes opinion articles and practical articles in Spanish healthcare journals in an effort to broadly disseminate a culture of safety and error prevention.
