Product bundling

Systems/solutions provider These businesses provide a complete bundle of products and services to customers to reduce customers total system costs or to increase customer revenues. The services typically help to integrate the product bundles to maximize the synergistic effects between products. [Pg.59]

As noted in Chapter 2, the non-productive aspects of construction work-those that are not time and money-can often struggle to impact on site operations. Fundamental problems of segregation from practice through the development of safety as a separate entity are further compounded by its inclusion in these non-productive bundles. Such terminology and management associations certainly influence how safety works on sites, and unfortunately such approaches are inherently unable to support the statement that ... [Pg.111]

In this chapter quality means conformance to requirements, which agrees with the APICS definition shown below. The product features include goods and services. These are the properties possessed by the product bundle that are intended to satisfy the customers needs. It is the customers who determine how satisfying the product is to them, based on their evaluation of the product compared with others in the market. A product that is free from deficiencies could be described as conforming to requirements or specifications. It is important that the specifications recognize the customer needs for the... [Pg.68]

Aggregation of demand from two or more sources can lead to better utilization of capacity (Gerchak and He 2002). As shown in Fig. 2.6, demand consolidation can take multiple forms that include use of distribution centers, product bundling, demand aggregation (over a wide window ), combining customer deliveries as in home-delivery, and online selling that combines customer orders. [Pg.40]

In this chapter, we present a multi-period supplier selection problem with product bundling. Due to the advances in information technology (IT), the demand for tactical items is deterministic therefore, the buyer can forecast demand for various products in each time period with high confidence. These days, most suppliers offer a variable pricing model where the final price may be discounted based on the quantity of product purchased in this chapter, we model the supplier discount using product bimdling. Product bundling is a form of discount where the final price of a product depends on the quantities of different products ordered. [Pg.270]

Equation 9.1 assumes zero lead time. For the first period fj is either equal to 0 or equal to the inventory held in the system at the end of previous cycle. Similarly, at the end of the cycle, the ending inventory could be either equal to 0 or an amount decided by the buyer. In our formulation, the buyer has to trade-off among the fixed order cost (transaction cost), the inventory holding cost, and the benefits of product bundling. [Pg.274]

To illustrate the supplier selection method for tactical items with product bundling and to evaluate the effectiveness of GP as a solution method, we solved several supplier selection models with varying parameters and compared their solutions. This section describes how the problems were generated, computational results, and our recommendation on which GP method works better. In the case study, we assume that every supplier is... [Pg.281]

In this chapter, we model and solve a multi-period supplier selection problem using a multi-objective optimization technique. We have combined the two most critical aspects of supplier selection activity— namely, inventory management and product bundling. The two aspects, when combined together, can yield more benefits to both the supplier and the buyer than if considered independently. The model assumes that the demand for different products is known in advance. In case of demand fluctuations, the buyer may not be able to buy the required amount to obtain a bimdling discount. In that case, the total cost may be higher than the one estimated in the model. [Pg.290]

Chapter 9 presents a multiple objective multi-period supplier selection model with product bundling for low cost/low risk items. The buyer s objective is to decide which products to order from which supplier, in what quantity, and in which period. The multi-objective problem is solved using four different variants of goal programming, and the results are compared. [Pg.391]

Some of these software packages also have semiempirical or molecular mechanics functionality. However, the primary strength of each is ah initio calculation. There are also ah initio programs bundled with the Unichem, Spartan, and Hyperchem products discussed previously in this appendix. [Pg.332]

A feed roU appHes tension to the bundle of fibers to withdraw them from the extmsion cabinet. The product of one extmsion position is caUed a continuous-filament yam, as distinguished from staple. CeUulose acetate yams are generaUy produced in a weight range of 5—100 tex (45—900 den). [Pg.296]

Pre-Production Handling. Salt-cured catde hides, when received at the tannery, are individually bundled to prevent excessive moisture loss. The bundles are tied with ropes that are later cut and removed the hides may be sorted for different weight or quaUty classification at this point. It is best to have hides of similar size and thickness in a given production batch to assure an even reactivity of the processing chemicals and to avoid frequent adjustments in the machinery to compensate for size and thickness variations. In the modem large tannery, the size/quaUty classification is not necessary because the hides arrive in carload quantities under specifications as to size, type, and month of slaughter. [Pg.83]

Theory and Equipment. Many diseases of the human body can be identified by visual appearance. Tumors in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, for example, possess a characteristic salmon pink color (3). The presence of such a color can be an indication of disease. Endoscopy is the medical imaging tool used to detect such colors in the inside of hoUow internal organs such as the rectum, urethra, urinary bladder, stomach, colon, etc. An endoscope is the instmment used to perform endoscopy. Endoscopic imaging involves the production of a tme color picture of the inside of the human body using lenses and either hoUow pipes, a fiber optic bundle, or a smaU CCD camera. AU three use a large field-of-view, sometimes referred to as a fish eye, lens to aUow a 180° field of view. [Pg.48]

The pneumatic deposition of the filament bundles onto the moving belt results in formation of the web. A pneumatic gun uses high pressure air to move the filaments through a constricted area of lower pressure but higher velocity, as in a venturi tube. Pneumatic jets used in spunbonded production have been described (17,24). Unfortunately, the exceUent filament uniformity coming out of the spinnerette is lost when the filaments are consoHdated going through a gun. [Pg.165]

Spent Fuel Treatment. Spent fuel assembhes from nuclear power reactors are highly radioactive because they contain fission products. Relatively few options are available for the treatment of spent fuel. The tubes and the fuel matrix provide considerable containment against attack and release of nucHdes. To minimi2e the volume of spent fuel that must be shipped or disposed of, consoHdation of rods in assembhes into compact bundles of fuel rods has been successfully tested. Alternatively, intact assembhes can be encased in metal containers. [Pg.229]
