Association of Managed Healthcare Organizations (AMHO) national trade association for open model managed care organizations, at-risk accepting prepayment as foil coverage for a predetermined health care benefit having to assume the financial liability for any loss which occurs when premiums paid are less than the cost of services provided. [Pg.409]

Several national organizations serve the professional needs of U.S. pharmacists. These reflect the practice milieu of members, eg, independent community pharmacies, chain dmg stores, and hospitals. The American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), founded in 1852, is composed of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, Academy of Pharmaceutical Practice and Management, and the Academy of Students of Pharmacy. Other organizations include the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP), National Association of Chain Dmg Stores (NACDS), and National Association of Retail Dmggists (NARD). [Pg.223]

Tables 27-1 to 27-3 have concentrated on the personnel makeup of control agencies. For a broader look at places of employment. Table 27-4 shows where 8037 members of the Air Pollution Control Association (APCA) of the United States and Canada worked in 1982. (This list includes foreign as well as domestic members of APCA but does not include the membership of the air pollution control associations of other countries.) This table shows that only 10.7% of the members work in control agencies. This table gives a somewhat distorted picture because in many air pollution organizations only the senior executive, professional, and scientific personnel belong to APCA, whereas the total North American workforce in air pollution includes several times the 8037 membership total who are in junior, technical, service, or manual sectors and are not association members. These numbers could be still greater if those engaged in this work outside North America were included. The Air Pollution Control Association changed its name to the Air and Waste Management Association in 1988. The Air and Waste Management Association had a membership of over 14,000 in 1993, but only a portion of the members were active in the air pollution profession. The successful chairmanship and the apparent qualities of personnel management landed several offers of deanships in Yngve s lap. He decided, to my delight, to remain a dedicated scientist. Administrative obligations remained, he assumed the role of Director of the Quantum Theory Project in 1983 and led this rather informal association of faculty members from Chemistry and Physics to be established, in 1987, as the "Institute for Theory and Computation in Molecular and Materials Sciences" with a well defined position in the University system. This was another demonstration of the ability to create coherence and commitment amongst a body of strong minded people with diverse interests. It is a consequence that Florida remains a world renowned hub of quantum chemistry activities. [Pg.12]
