Preliminary Hazard Analysis. The next step in the process is the development of a PHA. This analysis is the core of the FSS program and as such is vital in eliminating or reducing the inherent hazards associated with this laboratory operation. The PHA is used to further analyze the data identified in the PHL. This enhances the hazard control data base and provides specific recommended corrective action for the resolution of hazardous conditions. A combination of the informational sources used in the PHL development and any additional design information should be used in PHA development. 

Revise the Accidental Release Prevention Requirements, 40 CFR 68 (RMP), to explicitly cover catastrophic reactive hazards that have the potential to seriously impact the public, including those resulting from self-reactive chemicals and combinations of chemicals and process-specific conditions. Take into account the recommendations of this report to OSHA on reactive hazard coverage. Seek congressional authority if necessary to amend the regulation. 

As stated, the basic resin system makes it possible to process a recommended molding compound for a specific end use or application. The general physical, electrical, specific properties, and their applications, may more clearly be understood if each type thermoset molding compound is examined.

Please prepare a preliminary design for the proposed plant. This design will be surveyed by the Process Development Division and used as a basis for further decisions on the proposed plant. Make your report as complete as possible, including a detailed description of your recommended process, specifications and cost estimates for the different pieces of equipment, total capital investment, and estimated return on the investment assuming we can sell all our product at the prevailing market price. We shall also be interested in receiving an outline of the type and amount of labor required, the operating procedure, and analytical procedures necessary. 

The development of an effective cleaning process has to take into account the nature of the foulants, the thermal and chemical resistance of the membrane material, membrane housing and seals. Typically, membrane manufacturers make specific recommendations regarding the cleaning agents and cleaning procedures that need to be used for different membranes and applications. 

Stent placement in PAD patients has also been an area of smdy and controversy. A meta-analysis examining the use of stent placement versus PTA for the treatment of aortoiliac occlusive disease determined that, although stent placement and PTA yielded similar complication and mortality rates, posttreatment ABI were more improved with stents (0.87 with PTA and 0.76 with stents,/ <0.03) and the risk of long-term failure was 39% less with stent placement." However, other studies have not demonstrated improvement in patency rates in peripheral arteries versus PTA alone. The TASC document provides specific recommendations for PTA, with or without stenting, depending on how diffuse the disease process is, the number and size of the lesions, and the location of the lesions. ... 

The MCM v3 mechanism for butane was found to provide an acceptable reaction framework for describing the NOx-photo-oxidation experiments on the above systems, although a number of parameter modifications and refinements were identified and introduced which resulted in an improved performance. These generally relate to the magnitude of sources of free radicals from carbonyl photolysis processes, which are currently under review in MCM development activities. Specifically, recommendations are made to update the photolysis parameters for HCHO, MEK, either in line with data reported since the MCM mechanism development protocol (Jenkin et ai, 1997), or on the basis of optimization in the current study. 

Accordingly, we recommend that advanced methods for characterizing interfacial structure and dynamics be developed vigorously. A panel was established by the committee to study and make recommendations on experimental methods. Its findings have been issued separately (NMAB 438-3, In Situ Characterization of Electrochemical Processes ), and its conclusions and recommendations are summarized in Chapter 6. Twelve specific recommendations are set forth for special emphasis in the near term. They call, in general, for new methods that (a) can characterize interfacial structure with greater chemical detail and with spatial resolution approaching the atomic scale and (b) can characterize dynamics in ways that will provide views of faster reactions. It is particularly important to establish new methods for in situ characterization—that is, direct observation in the electrochemical environment of interest. 

The homogeneity problem is specific to solid samples, as liquid and gaseous samples are considered homogeneous by nature. Thus, for solid samples, an automatic sampling process is recommended to obtain reliable analytical information. To select the most adequate system to obtain a homogeneous sample it is necessary to take into account the sample complexity and the stability of the sample within a certain period of time.37 Further, it is necessary to establish first the nature of analysis that will be used in sample control, especially when the limits of detection are low. One must also be wary of the many contamination risks from reagent impurities, laboratory vessels, laboratory climate, and the operator. 

The majority of commercial blend grades has been developed specifically for injection molding and thus can be processed in conventional machines as long as the processing conditions recommended by the blend manufacturer are followed. Reciprocating screw machines are preferred over plunger-type ones. 

Unusable by-products from many chemical and metal-processing operations may often need to be contained and disposed of as hazardous wastes. Therefore, it is generally advisable to contact the Department of Environmental Protection (or equivalent at the state or local level) or the regional office of the federal EPA for specific recommendations on proper disposal. In all cases, however, disposal should be in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
