Problem Jet Fuel Fails Particulate Contamination Test

PROBLEM JET FUEL FAILS PARTICULATE CONTAMINATION TEST [Pg.215]

Test method ASTM D-2276, Particulate Contaminant in Aviation Fuel by Line Sampling, requires filtration of fuel through a 0.8-micron filter. Caustic neutralized corrosion inhibitor salts can block these filters and slow down the filtration of fuel enough to cause failure of this ASTM test. [Pg.215]

PROBLEM FUEL CORRODES COPPER, BRONZE, OR BRASS COMPONENTS [Pg.216]

Fuel Contains Hydrogen Sulfide or Active Sulfur [Pg.216]

Copper and copper-containing alloys are susceptible to attack by elemental sulfur and hydrogen sulfide as well as organically bound sulfur. Active or elemental sulfur and hydrogen sulfide gas can attack copper to form copper sulfide, a dark-brown to black compound. This can be seen through ASTM D-130 copper corrosion testing. [Pg.216]
