Zeta potential analysis of fillers dispersed in water. The surface of N550 and Printex carbon black exhibited an electron donor (basic) characteristics. The isoelectric point for semi-active black and conductive occurred at respectively pH=9,5, pH=10,5. From the data in fig. 4 it follows that the highest improvement of tear resistance was achieved by the addition of FW200 and Printex carbon blacks. So far LII has only been applied for aerosol processes without the consideration of particles dispersed in liquids. First, investigations were carried out with re-dispersed carbon blacks. In a laboratory kneading chamber polycarbonate (PC) of medium viscosity (e.g. Makrolon 2600, Bayer) is mixed with different amounts of highly structured carbon black (CB, e.g. Printex XE2 (Evonik), up to 10 wt% in steps of 1-2 wt%) at ca. 280°C with a suitable defined mixing rate tiU a homogeneous mixture is obtained (typically 5-15 min). The melt will be taken out of the mixing unit, cooled down, and flat plates of the composites are prepared by compression moulding at ca. 280°C between two planar steel plates by means of a heatable hydraulic press. Polyethylene monofilaments (48 tex) were coated with a conductive polymer composite based on dispersion of Printex L6 carbon black particles in Evoprene 007 solution, using chloroform as a solvent (Cochrane et al., 2007). Thermogravimetric analysis. From fig. 6 it follows that the addition of carbon black to the elastomer composite increased its thermal stability.
