Polyethylene filament

The coexistence of two types of structures in transparent polyethylene filaments obtained by Porter and co-workers47 by forcing the melt through a capillary was proved by the existence of two peaks in the thermogram a high-temperature peak for ECC and a low-temperature peak for FCC (cf. Fig. 8 c). [Pg.226]

Kavesh et al. [226] reported the production of polyethylene filaments having a tenacity of at least 30 g/den by pulling a filament from a curved Teflon surface submerged in a solution of polyethylene. The rate of production of the filament was a least 2 m/min. [Pg.243]

Dyneema UD is a unidirectional laminate made of two layers of extended chain polyethylene filament tows, cross plied and sandwiched in a thermoplastic film. It is one of the strongesf " and most exclusive fibre laminates designed for ballistic protection. It is very thin and one of the lightest ballistic protection materials available, with a relative density lower than that of water. - It offers good protection from cuts and slashes and will also help to protect against stabs. It will withstand temperatures of up to 140 °C and maintains its protective properties down to -150 °C (Fig. 7.15). [Pg.212]

Polyethylene monofilaments (48 tex) were coated with a conductive polymer composite based on dispersion of Printex L6 carbon black particles in Evoprene 007 solution, using chloroform as a solvent (Cochrane et al., 2007). Two-ply polyethylene filaments were coated with the polymer solution as described above. The two ends of the coated polyethylene filaments were additionally coated with silver paint in order to reduce contact resistance, and fine copper wire was attached to the two ends with the help of this paint. In this way, secure connections were realized. Sensor strucmral and geometrical parameters along with initial electrical resistance are shown in Table 14.1. [Pg.312]
