Mixing, defined

The more modem approach to the problem of mixing nitrocellulose consists of mixing defined types of nitrocellulose in the nitrocellulose factory itself. In this case the two forms of nitrocellulose are mixed under water in mixers as described in Vol. II, p. 374. The water is then centrifuged and the mixture dehydrated with alcohol. This method, however, creates certain inconvenience to the powder factory which loses the possibility of changing (within certain limits) the composition of the mixtures, i.e. nitrogen content and total solubility of nitrocellulose. The powder factory is therefore compelled to limit the number of factors which can be varied to obtain the powder of required ballistic properties. [Pg.582]

As usual, all thermodynamic properties of interest may be derived from the expression for the free energy. Here we shall be concerned with the free energy of mixing, defined as... [Pg.346]

The integral heat of mixing per mole of solution is equal to the excess enthalpy of mixing defined in the previous paragraph ... [Pg.384]

The degree of mixing defined as the variance of the mass fraction of sand in the mix needs to be determined. It has to be compared with the variance for a fully segregated system and the ideal variance of a random mix. First, the random sample variance [Eq. (21-60)] is calculated, and with it an upper limit for the true variance can then be laid down. The sand s average concentration p in the whole 3-ton mix is estimated by using the random sample average l ... [Pg.2278]

Supercritical conditions above P > Fm) or below P < P ) the mixture critical curve lead to different crystallization and aggregation mechanisms (7,20). In the first case there is no interfacial tension, and mass transfer is determined by the flow-molecular diffusion interactions during mixing, defined here as jet mixing. In the second case, there is interfacial tension between the phases, and the mixing mechanism is based on atomization to small droplets while energy and species are being transferred between the... [Pg.102]

Mix defined amount of -CD, starch and 20% sodium hydroxide solution into a triangle flask, stir in the hot water bath for 24 h. Rest of the steps are the same as mentioned above. A gray crosslinked polymer will be gained. [Pg.168]

Excess properties are simply related to the changes of properties on mixing defined in 5.1.2. Specifically, if we combine the definition of/ (5.2.1) with the intensive version of the definition of F" (5.1.21), we obtain... [Pg.190]

It is the thermodynamics of mixing which ultimately determines whether or not a blend is miscible or immiscible at equilibrium. The phase diagram, which is determined by the thermodynamics of mixing, defines the conditions under which homogeneous mixtures are stable, metastable or unstable and will predict whether a blend will become miscible or immiscible as experimental parameters are changed. [Pg.69]

Restoration will be completed by optimizing an appropriate mix of uses for die restored land residential, recreational, industrial, and retained by the government. This mix defines the vision of where the program expects to be at conclusion. Within the US program we intend to achieve this vision by adhering to ths following core values ... [Pg.177]
