Black Pearls®

When carbon black has been formed, the pyrolysis reaction is stopped by quenching with water. Further cooling, down to 200 to 300 °C, is achieved by passing the gas/carbon black mixture into heat exchangers the heat which is recovered is used to pre-heat the combustion air. The carbon black is separated in special filters. The residual gas is used in an incineration plant, to produce energy. The carbon black, which arises in powder form, is transferred to a pearl machine to convert it into pearl black for easier handling. [Pg.384]

The composition of the polyurethane gel electrolyte was PU EC PC salt in the ratio 1 2 2 0.1 (w/w).The components were dissolved in 30 mLtetra-hydrofuran and the solution was stirred for 24 h to complete homogenization, then it was cast in a mold to obtain a solid thin-film gel electrolyte. Similarly, Pearl Black 2000 carbon powder (0.10 g), 0.2 g of the above electrolyte solution and additional plasticizer/salt solution (additional plasti-cizer/salt solution was prepared from EC-PC (1 1 v/v) and lithium perchlorate in the ratio 10 1 (w/w)) in the range of 20-200 wt% with respect to the initial mass of the carbon composite electrode homogenized mixture, were cast to make films. To make the cell assembly, the gel electrolyte was sandwiched between high surface area carbon-cloth and carbon-composite electrodes respectively. [Pg.462]

The irradiation darkening to produce black pearls is merely a charring of the organic conchiolin. [Pg.223]

The synthesis of carbon templated mesoporous tin MFI catalysts with different Si/Sn was carried out using microwave and in typical synthesis methodology TEOS, TPAOH, [Sn(C5H70)2]2]Cl2, ethanol and water were employed where the molar composition of the reaction mixture was 0.06 TPAOH 0.67 H20 0.028 TEOS 1.3 g EtOH X mg of tin precursor (X = 85, 63, 42, 21 mg). This synthesis mixture was stirred for 90 min at room temperature and then Black pearl 2000 carbon (10% wt. of TEOS) was added and again stirred for 4 h vigorously. The crystallization of C-meso-Sn-Silicalite was performed in a Teflon cup placed in a microwave oven (MARS-5, CEM, maximum power of 1200 W). [Pg.434]

TS-1 (mesoporosity 20nm, 0.3-1.2 xm size), carbon black pearls 700 (Carbot Corp., average particle diameter =18 nm (ASTM D-3249)) were impregnated by the incipient wetness method with a clear solution of TPAOH, water, and ethanol. After evaporation of ethanol, the carbon particles were impregnated with 20% excess (relative to incipient wetness) of a mixture of TEOT and TEOS. Aging for a minimum of 3 h at room temperature and heating at 453 K for 72 h yielded the solid product, which was isolated, and the carbon black was removed by controlled combustion in air at 523 K for 8 h. [Pg.168]

Wang et al. [131] used carbon composite MPLs (AB and Black Pearls 2000), similar to those presented in Reference 164, and coated them on both sides of a carbon fiber paper (similar to that for carbon cloths see Sechon 4.3.3.1). In this... [Pg.244]

Wang et al. [140] presented another example of multilayered MPLs that consisted of a basic MPL (Vulcan XC-72 and PTFE) on top of a DL and a mixfure of carbon black (Black Pearl 2000) and Nafion sprayed onfo fhe peripheral region of the MPL (i.e., around the active area). Tliis was done on both the anode and cathode sides. The extra MPL, also called a water transfer region (WTR), was used in order for fhe MEA to be self-humidified. The WTR would receive the excess water at the cathode and then the water... [Pg.245]

Skewered by eyes as sharp as the servant s darning needle, I bowed low. She was a tall, but not heavy woman, clad in fine velvet and lace, all in black, and carefully adorned with pearls and face paint. Palace life and ample servants and wet nurses had preserved her well only the hollow cheeks caused by lost teeth acknowledged that she must be over fifty and had borne many children. [Pg.48]

And as soon as the king had thus spoken, he turned around and conversed in a very friendly way with one of his queens. Amongst these was an hundred-year-old stewardess, with a grey cloak, a black cap upon her head, bedecked with numberless snow-white pearls and lined with red velvet, and embroidered and sewn in an artful manner with blue and yellow silk, and her cloak was adorned with divers Turkish colours and Indian figures. [Pg.41]

The individual graphitic layers are the basic building blocks of carbon black particles. The morphology and particle size distribution of carbon black is dependent on the source material and the process of its thermal decomposition. Particle size and distribution determine directly the specific surface area (SSA) which is one of the most important properties of carbon black for fuel cell applications. High surface area (ranging from a few hundreds to 2000-3000m2 g-1) carbon blacks suitable for fuel cell applications can be obtained from Cabot Corporation (Vulcan XC-72R, Black Pearls BP 2000), Ketjen Black International, Chevron (Shawinigan), Erachem and Denka. [Pg.395]
