Personal Protective Equipment. Personal protective and emergency safety equipment should not be reHed on as the primary protection from aHyl chloride. Prevention of exposure should be considered the preferred precautionary measure. As a precautionary measure to prevent the appearance of maxima, sufficient gelatin to give a final concentration of 0.005 per cent should be added. The gelatin should preferably be prepared fresh each day bacterial action usually appears after a few days. Other maximum suppressors (e.g. Triton X-100 and methyl cellulose) are sometimes used. 

One of the earliest steps in product design is to establish the configuration of the product that will form the basis on which a suitable material is selected to meet performance requirements. Readers should also have gained some appreciation of how to design and conduct their own mechanistic investigations, even though experimental techniques per se were not emphasized. They will also have come to appreciate what data should be gathered to supplement the kinetics. There are many tricks of the trade on the practical side, only some of which I have cited. The analysis demonstrates the elegant use of a very specific type of column packing. As a result, there is no sample preparation, so after the serum has been filtered or centrifuged, which is a precautionary measure to protect the apparatus, 10 p.1 of serum is injected directly on to the column. The chemical nature of the material is not clear, but it can be assumed that the dispersive surface where interaction with the small molecules can take place probably contains hydrocarbon chains like a reversed phase.

Data sets on toxicity to aquatic organisms vary considerably from compound to compound, with dibutyltin being the best studied. Results of toxicity tests for all compounds are summarized in Figure 2. Values for all but one test on the octyltins have been set at the solubility of the compounds, since no toxicity was observed below the solubilities derivation of PNECs for the octyltins are, therefore, more precautionary than for the other compounds. 

Much has been done to improve laboratory safety over the years. Two examples from the author s early experience can illustrate the lack of precautionary measures as late as the 1940 s. 

Most laboratories depend upon a steady supply of electric power, water, and gas. Very unsafe conditions may develop if any of these should fail, so precautionary measures must be taken.
