PANI-NFA 2O5 is promising nanocomposite material for utilization as a cathode for ion-Li batteries [292,293]. PANI-NFs have been used as a cathode material for rechargeable Li-polymer cells assembled with a gel polymer electrolyte [152], and in an aqueous PANI-Zn rechargeable battery [261]. Dispersions of dedoped PANI-NFs in poly(vinyhdene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene)-based gel polymers can be used as electrolyte membranes for rechargeable Li batteries [513]. PANI-NF and PANI-NT arrays, which show superior electrochemical properties to the bulk counterpart, can be applied to Li-polymer thin-film batteries, which are shape-flexible and specifically suitable for powering integrated circuit cards and microelectromechanical systems [514,515]. [Pg.73]

An emerging technology involves combining microelectronics and power controls. Smartpower or power integrated circuits (PIC) can help reduce electrical hazards. These devices connect to a circuit and will have their own identification. The PIC will not permit current to flow to a device that it does not recognize. For example, this concept may prevent electrocution of a child who inserts a metal object into a receptacle. [Pg.148]

Before building the final device, it is recommended to mount it on a solderless breadboard. Currently, on the market there are various devices of this type, which may include power sources required, e.g. typically +5 V for TTL logic devices, -F12 V and —12 V to power-integrated circuits, the function generator with adjustable output voltage, speakers. [Pg.120]

Laser ionization mass spectrometry or laser microprobing (LIMS) is a microanalyt-ical technique used to rapidly characterize the elemental and, sometimes, molecular composition of materials. It is based on the ability of short high-power laser pulses (-10 ns) to produce ions from solids. The ions formed in these brief pulses are analyzed using a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The quasi-simultaneous collection of all ion masses allows the survey analysis of unknown materials. The main applications of LIMS are in failure analysis, where chemical differences between a contaminated sample and a control need to be rapidly assessed. The ability to focus the laser beam to a diameter of approximately 1 mm permits the application of this technique to the characterization of small features, for example, in integrated circuits. The LIMS detection limits for many elements are close to 10 at/cm, which makes this technique considerably more sensitive than other survey microan-alytical techniques, such as Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) or Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA). Additionally, LIMS can be used to analyze insulating sam-... [Pg.586]

Instruments based on the contact principle can further be divided into two classes mechanical thermometers and electrical thermometers. Mechanical thermometers are based on the thermal expansion of a gas, a liquid, or a solid material. They are simple, robust, and do not normally require power to operate. Electrical resistance thermometers utilize the connection between the electrical resistance and the sensor temperature. Thermocouples are based on the phenomenon, where a temperature-dependent voltage is created in a circuit of two different metals. Semiconductor thermometers have a diode or transistor probe, or a more advanced integrated circuit, where the voltage of the semiconductor junctions is temperature dependent. All electrical meters are easy to incorporate with modern data acquisition systems. A summary of contact thermometer properties is shown in Table 12.3. [Pg.1136]

They may be classified by their structure, as coin, cylindrical and pin types. Table 5, 6, 7 respectively show their specifications. Applications of Li -(CF)n batteries as power sources are spreading from professional and business uses, such as in wireless transmitters and integrated circuit (IC) memory preservation, to consumer uses in electronic watches, cameras, calculators, and the like. Pin-type batteries are used for illumination-type fishing floats with a light-emitting diode. Coin-type batteries, which have a stable packing insulation, separator, and electrolyte for high... [Pg.39]

The rolled type batteries are general-purpose batteries with high capacity and good characteristics. Thin film power sources have found a number of specific applications in the fields of portable accumulators with high energy density for application in electronic and integral circuits, sensors, monitors and for medicine [3],... [Pg.494]
