Plant location electricity supplies

This term includes, power, steam, compressed air, cooling and process water, and effluent treatment unless costed separately. The quantities required can be obtained from the energy balances and the flow-sheets. The prices should be taken from Company records, if available. They will depend on the primary energy sources and the plant location. The figures given in Table 6.5 can be used to make preliminary estimates. The current cost of utilities supplied by the utility companies electricity, gas and water, can be obtained from their local area offices. [Pg.262]

Power plants to burn scrap tires involve large capital investments and annual operating expenses. However, plants located near large supplies of tires can be feasible. A key variable in determining economic feasibility for these plants is the buy-back rate granted by the utility. In areas of the country where the rate is high, such as California and the northeast, power plants are feasible. The buy-back rate is the rate the utilities pay for electricity generated from alternative fuel, and reflects the fuel and other costs avoided by the utility. [Pg.17]

This wood gasification plant is located at the relatively new coal fired heat unit of EPZ, Amer 9 at Geertruidenberg in The Netherlands, The aim of the project is to achieve savings of 70,000 tons of coal (33,700 TOE) based on 150,000 tons of wood waste (construction demolition waste) corresponding to 170,000 CO2 t/y reduction in emissions. The equivalent electricity capacity is 29 MWe. The gasification plant has been supplied by LURGI. [Pg.19]

If the CO boiler represents 10 to 30% of the r.eam supply, a sudden shutdown is obviously undesirable. This point must be given very careful consideration for a plant located in an area with no connections for electric power or steam outside the sjiant. [Pg.27]

The main arterial system of a plant is yard piping. It is here that long process lines are located interconnecting distant equipment with lines entering and leaving the unit. Also located in the yard are utility headers supplying steam, air, gas, and water to process equipment. Here are located all relief and blow-down headers. Often instrument lines and electrical supply conduits are also supported on the yard steel. [Pg.193]

The operation of the plant serves the purpose of a grid-independent electricity supply of the central library of the research center. Surplus solar energy in the summer season is stored as hydrogen gas and is re-converted into electricity in the wintertime. The daily balance of demand and supply is realized with the short-term storage battery with allows an operation for three days. The plant can be operated without personnel [27]. All plant components (electrolyzer, gas purification system, fuel cell, etc.) except the storage pressure tanks are located within a large experimental building (total volume - 20,000 m ) on a 7 m X 18 m area with a distance to the roof of 17 m. [Pg.261]

The unattended ELENA NTEP plant is designed to produce heat for towns with a population of 1 500-2 000 located in remote and hard-to-reach areas where district heating is required. Since it is auxiliary in nature, the electricity generation of 68 kW could be used for the in-house power needs of the plant and to supply electricity to consumers requiring a highly reliable power supply, such as hospitals, etc. [Pg.184]

Except what is produced by hydroelectric plants located on major rivers, most electrical energy comes from generators driven by steam. Traditionally, the steam comes from boilers fueled by oil, gas, or coal. The fast-dwindling supplies of these fossil fuels, and the uncertainties surrounding the availability and cost of petroleum from the countries where it is abundant, have turned attention to nuclear fission as an alternative energy source. [Pg.610]

The position of the supply intake where the ISA is situated should be agreed with the electricity supply company and should be located where it will not be disturbed for the duration of the project and where it is not liable to be damaged by vehicles and mobile civil engineering plant. The location will usually be on the site periphery and should be selected to minimise the length of the supply company s service cable or overhead line and consequently its charges. [Pg.181]

The most active speculation, however, was most directly applicable to miners experience in a coal processing plant. They could visualize the belt in their own plant, and the answers clearly derived from their own experience. Here, miners described problems in the plant when workers attempted to shut down the belt for maintenance, the location of the guards, lock-out tagout procedures (isolating or shutting down the electrical supply), the location of platforms in the mine, and problems that occurred because of the lack of staff. They described how 10 years ago, you d see lots of men in the plant, and... [Pg.173]

Energy availability. Power and steam requirements are high in most industrial plants, and fuel is ordinarily required to supply these utilities. Consequently, power and fuel can be combined as one major factor in the choice of a plant site. Electrolytic processes require a cheap source of electricity, and plants using electrolytic processes are often located near large hydroelectric installations. If the plant requires large quantities of coal or oil, location near a source of fuel supply may be essential for economic operation. The local cost of power can help determine whether power should be purchased or self-generated. [Pg.92]
