Then there are other places such as chemical waste exchanges, pool supply companies, electroplating companies, photography supply shops, agriculture companies, specialty gas canister companies and just about any place where a chemical can be sold. 

Another type of aboveground tank is the elevated tank. These tanks, elevated by stmctural supports, are almost exclusively relegated to the domain of the municipal water supply companies. Because the municipal water supply is considered a vital pubHc resource, tanks are often elevated for the reason that gravity as a source of pressure is considered more reHable for distribution to the market. Although the same effect can be accompHshed by placing tanks on bills, where this is not possible the tanks are elevated by stmctural steel supports. 

Detection of Bromine Vapor. Bromine vapor in air can be monitored by using an oxidant monitor instmment that sounds an alarm when a certain level is reached. An oxidant monitor operates on an amperometric principle. The bromine oxidizes potassium iodide in solution, producing an electrical output by depolarizing one sensor electrode. Detector tubes, usefiil for determining the level of respiratory protection required, contain (9-toluidine that produces a yellow-orange stain when reacted with bromine. These tubes and sample pumps are available through safety supply companies (54). The usefiil concentration range is 0.2—30 ppm. 

The yearly worldwide production of lanthanides is nearly 70,000 tons (18) measured as contained Ln oxide. The primary sources are given in Table 2. For finished products the principal supplying companies are Molycorp (United States), Rhc ne-Poulenc (France), several Japanese companies, such as Mitsubishi, Santoku, and Shinetsu, and some Chinese organi2ations. The rise of Chinese lanthanide production during the 1980s has become a significant factor in the global market picture. 

Rhodium. Rhodium is the most commonly plated platinum-group metal. In addition to its decorative uses, rhodium has useful properties for engineering appHcations. It has good corrosion resistance, stable electtical contact resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance, and good reflectivity. The use of rhodium for engineering purposes is covered by an ASTM specification (128). Typical formulas are shown in Table 15. The metal content is obtained from prepared solutions available from proptietary plating supply companies. Replenishment is requited because anodes are not soluble. Rhodium for decorative use may be 0.05—0.13 p.m thick for industtial use, it maybe 0.50—5.0 p.m thick. 

The following is a brief introduction to making measurements that might be needed in the course of developing an lAQ profile or investigating an lAQ complaint. Emphasis has been placed on the parameters most commonly of interest in nonresearch studies, highlighting the more practical methods and noting some inappropriate tests to avoid. Most of the instruments discussed in this section are relatively inexpensive and readily available from many local safety supply companies. Air contaminants of concern in lAQ can be measured by one or more of the methods described below.

Study. Many of these supplies may be purchased at local supply stores or through research supply companies. All legitimate businesses must collect a certain percentage of sales tax (unless your state, like Montana, does not have a sales tax) on every dollar they take in. Then, after every month or every four months, they must fill out a form (see the form on page 111) and send the state the total amount of taxes that you have collected from your customers. Sounds like too much work It really is not, and it s well worth it to have a license or license copy to show chemical supply companies in proving your legitimacy. It will cost 15 or 20, but will be good for the life of your business. Call City Hall and make an appointment with someone who can help you get a license.
