Activities affecting quality

The standard requires the supplier to provide for the training of all personnel performing activities affecting quality. The supplementary requirement requires provision of on-the-job training for personnel (including contractors) in any new or modified job affecting quality. 

Consistent training is used to meet the needs of and provide training for all personnel-performed activities affecting quality. All personnel are provided with training on good quality performance and are aware of the consequences of poor quality. 

Quality assurance is implemented through the definition and the realization of a quality assurance programme (QAP). The QAP is an integral part of the plant design and shall provide for a disciplined approach to all activities affecting quality, including verification that each task has been satisfactorily performed and that necessary corrective actions have been implemented. It shall also provide for production of documentary evidence to demonstrate that the required quality has been achieved. 

Quality assurance is essentially a systematic and documented method to ensure that the required conditions or levels of safety are consistently achieved. Any systematic evaluation and documentation of performance judged against an appropriate standard is a form of quality assurance. A disciplined approach to all activities affecting quality, including, where appropriate, specification and verification of satisfactory performance and/or implementation of appropriate corrective actions, will contribute to transport safety and provide evidence that the required quality has been achieved. 

IV.9. The principles and objectives are applicable to all those responsible for the transport of radioactive materials, and to other organizations participating in activities affecting quality. 

IV. 15. All programmes should ensure that the activities affecting quality are accomplished in accordance with written arrangements, instructions or drawings of a type appropriate to the circumstances, and that they include appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative acceptance criteria for determining that important activities have been satisfactorily accomplished.

The WSRC quality assurance program is implemented within the Reactor Division on a graded basis as described in the WSRC PoUcy Manual (WSRC-l-Ol) (Ref. 6-17), "WSRC QuaHty Assurance Management Plan" (Ref 6-S8) and the WSRC (Quality Assurance Manual (WSRC IQ) (Ref. 6-28). Activities affecting quality, safety, and/or reliability of Reactor Division operations, products, and services are performed in accor ce with documented and approved procedures appropriate for the tasks to be perfoimed. Procedures are used to ensure that quality assurance requirements are planned and systemadcally implemented as part of the performance of the activity. The quality assurance program provides for the indoctrination and training of personnel, as necessary, to ensure that suitable proficiency is achieved and maintained tef 6-35). 

Use the LAQ profile and other available information to evaluate the design, operation, and usage of the building, identify potential LAQ problem locations, identify staff and contractors whose activities affect indoor air quality. Review and revise staff responsibilities to ensure that responsibilities that may affect indoor air quality are clearly assigned.

The term quality activities is not defined in ISO 8402 and while it may seem obvious it can create confusion. If we list all the activities which can affect quality, we could say that these are all quality activities. But many of these are also design, purchasing, manufacturing, and installing activities. Can they also be quality activities Quality activities are not restricted to the activities of the quality department or other similar departments. The only clue in the standard as to what quality activities are is in clause 4.1.2.1 where it requires the responsibility of all personnel who manage, perform, and verify work affecting quality to be defined. So a quality activity is any activity that affects the ability of a product or service to satisfy stated or implied needs.

Urinary incontinence in patients with Down syndrome treated with donepezil has been described before (67). Urinary incontinence can be a major concern and a source of distress, not only for patients but also for caregivers. Clinicians should be alert to the possibility of urinary incontinence when prescribing donepezil for individuals with Alzheimer s disease. The authors emphasized that the incontinence may often be transient and not serious, but it could limit a patient s activities and quality of life and could also affect therapeutic adherence. 

During the collection or harvesting phase, skilled labor can be an important factor that influences quality of the harvest of wild plants. Deliberate adulteration most frequently occurs with expensive natural substances or natural substances in short supply. Mechanical devices may be more economical in the collection of some plants but may be of little use when only particular parts of another plant are desired. Cultivated plants ensure a more reliable source of the desired plant with less risk of substitution. Environmental conditions (temperature, rainfall, day length and sunlight, altitude, atmosphere, and soil) can dramatically affect quality, concentration, and presence of active constituents in plants. The age of the plant can also be an important determinant of the quality of active constituents in a crude drug. 

Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as the complaint of involuntary leakage of urine. It is frequently accompanied by other bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms such as urgency, increased daytime frequency, and nocturia. It is a common yet underdetected and underreported health problem that can significantly affect quality of life. Patients with UI may have depression as a result of the perceived lack of self-control, loss of independence, and lack of self-esteem, and they often curtail their activities for fear of an accident. It may also have serious medical and economic ramifications for untreated or undertreated patients, including perineal dermatitis, worsening of pressure ulcers, urinary tract infections, and falls. 

The presence of other disease states may also affect response to treatment by limiting treatment options. The overall functional status of a patient may be assessed using performance status scales, such as the Karnofsky and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group scales (Table 124-9). These scales can be used to predict patient tolerance of chemotherapy, as well as to assess the effects of chemotherapy on the patient s level of activity and quality of hfe. In many cancers, performance status at diagnosis is the most important prognostic indicator. 

The simultaneous determination of Fe(ll) and Fe(lll) is important to understanding the environmental redox processes in biological systems.
