Training personal practices

Each manufacturer shall establish and maintain requirements for the health, cleanliness,personal practices, and clothing of personnel if contact between such personnel and product orenvironment could reasonably be expected to have an adverse effect on product quality. Themanufacturer shall ensure that maintenance and other personnel who are required to worktemporarily under special environmental conditions are appropriately trained or supervised bya trained individual. 

But what impressed Haber most deeply was America s bent toward the practical. Americans, he said, possessed an instinctive feel for machines and technology. Working methods and personal practices are, however, the most important factors that affect occupational lead exposure, and all personnel involved in lead operations must be trained adequately in lead abatement strategies and informed of the results of observations and monitoring, whether a cause for concern or not. 

Training must consist of a combination of formal instruction, practical training, and evaluation of the operator s performance in the workplace. In addition, all training and evaluation must be conducted by persons who have the knowledge, training, and experience to train forklift operators and evaluate their competence. 

Note In practice (in the real world of performing confined space entry operations), common routine often designates the entry supervisor as the "competent" or "qualified" person. The competent or qualified person is that entry supervisor who has had the appropriate training and experience and possesses the knowledge required to supervise, and bring about, correct confined space entries. An entry supervisor may also serve as an attendant or as an authorized entrant, as long as that person is trained and equipped as required by the confined space entry standard for each role he or she plays. Also, the duties of entry supervisor may be passed from one qualified individual to another qualified individual during the course of an entry operation.

Trainees are to receive practical training in powered industrial truck operation only in areas where it is safe to do so. This training must be under the direct supervision of a person with requisite knowledge, training, and experience. Employees in the surrounding area are to be alerted to the training activities that ate occurring in their areas. 

Unless established monitoring practices are conducted by plant personnel or the OSHA compliance officer, the results are of limited value in determining compliance with a standard, and what is more important, protecting the worker s health. The conduct of air monitoring by untrained, or poorly trained, persons relegates the program to a "numbers game" which serves no useful purpose. 

Ensure that the contractor/subcontractor can implement a comprehensive health and safety program in compliance with applicable regulations, including accident prevention programs, medical surveillance, training, work practice controls, use of personal protective equipment, and so on. 

This requirement can be rather onerous especially if your staff have not had any training that can be verified. Much training is carried out on the job . A person learns a trade or profession by practice and experience as well as by formal training. An individual will... 

On the part of the contractor team, two root causes were identified, root cause 1 being insufficient training of the contractor team leader. He was uncertain of permit systems, specifically whether they should report in at the end of shift, and, if so, who should do it. The second root cause relates to the procedure used at the end of the shift for supervisors to sign back permits. Although according to procedure all workers should hand back permits to supervisors in person, in practice this did not occur. If no one is present, or they are busy, it had become common practice to either leave the permits on the supervisor s desk, or to sign them back in the morning.
