Another place where dual packaging also comes into play is the use of peroxide for mold cleaning. Peroxide has a higher oxidation potential than hypochlorite (-1.36 eV for sodium hypochlorite and —1.8 eV for hydrogen peroxide), but paradoxically does not work with the speed of hypochlorite on bathroom mildew. However, peroxide has essentially no odor, in contrast to hypochlorite that has a distinctive and unpleasant odor. Without activation, peroxide bleach would take longer to do the job that hypochlorite does more quickly. Sodium peroxoborate hexahydrate is an important ingredient of many household detergents, working best at temperatures above 60°C. It is also used in dishwasher detergents, denture cleaners, as well as foot and bath salts. They are usually aimed at laundry problems, but directions on the label give dilution instructions for use as a cleaner on a variety of hard surfaces as well. Surfactants used in these cleaners are usually anionic or nonionic at low concentrations (<5%).
