Patent Coordinators

Patent coordinators jobs are few and may be hard to find. They are not entry-level posts, but require direct experience of the work, for which employers seek B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. chemists. A qualified Ph.D. scientist achieves as a prerequisite the research successes that lead to patent applications. For a medicinal chemist employed in discovery research these successes are a series of biologically potent new compounds. For his counterpart in develop- [Pg.84]

For other positions, even a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training cannot substitute for industrial research experience. A chemist needs experience to find work in a patent or regulatory affairs department. Patent coordinators (see text below), who are not lawyers but chemists, learn the basics of their future liaison positions as researchers whose inventions are patented. Their experience in assisting attorneys qualifies them to devote afi their efforts to such work. [Pg.77]

However, this advance has an important shortcoming the lack of context. More than one idea is expressed in a document a patent on oxidation catalysts, for example, could include examples of the oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde and of 2-propanol to acetone. A simple coordinate search for conversion of methanol to acetone would retrieve such a document from a file that provides no context. [Pg.59]

Polymers with much higher average molecular weights, from 90,000 to 4 x 10 , are formed by a process of coordinate anionic polymerization (43—45). The patent Hterature describes numerous organometaUic compounds, aLkaline-earth compounds, and mixtures as polymerization catalysts. Iron oxides that accumulate in ethylene oxide storage vessels also catalyze polymerization. This leads to the formation of nonvolatile residue (NVR) no inhibitor has been found (46). [Pg.453]

In the sixties of past century, a few patents issued to Bergbau Chemie [5,48,49] and to Mobil Oil [50-52], respectively described the use of CFPs as supports for catalytically active metal nanoclusters and as carriers for heterogenized metal complexes of catalytic relevance. For the latter catalysts the term hybrid phase catalysts later came into use [53,54], At that time coordination chemistry and organo-transition metal chemistry were in full development. Homogeneous transition metal catalysis was expected to grow in industrial relevance [54], but catalyst separation was generally a major problem for continuous processing. That is why the concept of hybrid catalysis became very popular in a short time [55]. [Pg.208]

Kremer s proposal, like those of Giiell and Fischbaum, stands midway between patents and grants.24 One of the objections raised by The Economist to Kremer s proposal is that the government would end up paying more than the consumer surplus and the welfare loss (triangles ABC and pp1 A in Figure 2.1). In the face of this situation, the new method would be clearly detrimental because it would force a tax increase to pay for the patent. Furthermore, the international nature of patents would require the existence of some kind of international coordination, not an easy task to accomplish. We are dealing, therefore, with a theoretical proposal that needs further contributions. [Pg.31]

Higher molecular weight materials are typically prepared using coordination catalysts, such as the calcium amide-alkoxide system developed by Union Carbide,932 and double metal cyanide initiators, e.g., [Zn(Fe(CN)6)].933 The nature of the active sites in these catalysts is not well understood and only a few studies have been published outside the patent literature.810,934,935... [Pg.52]

In realizing the poor film-forming property of 9,10-(diphenyl)anthracene, the Kodak group improved this property by designing a series of blue emitters based on further substituted anthracene derivatives. The chemical structures of these materials were patented in a U.S. Patent in 1999 [239], In their patent, Kodak also reported the EL data using one of these compounds as a host material and using TBP as a blue dopant (Scheme 3.62). The device structures is ITO/CuPc/NPD/anthracene compounds.5%TBP/Alq3/Mg Ag. The EL of the device showed blue emission with CIE color coordinates of (0.144, 0.196). Without the... [Pg.355]

Angeltr—>has briefly reported in a patent the addition of metal ions to several types of polyimides. The object of the invention was a process for forming particle-containing (transparent polyimide shaped structures. Unlike the work discussed previously, all of the metals were added in the form of coordination complexes rather than as simple anhydrous or hydrated salts. The properties of only one film (e.g. cast from a N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF) solution of 4,4 -diaminodiphenyl methane, pyromellitic dianhydride and bis(acetylacetonato)-... [Pg.72]

In asymmetric hydrogenation of olefins, the overwhelming majority of the papers and patents deal with hydrogenation of enamides or other appropriately substituted prochiral olefins. The reason is very simple hydrogenation of olefins with no coordination ability other than provided by the C=C double bond, usually gives racemic products. This is a common observation both in non-aqueous and aqueous systems. The most frequently used substrates are shown in Scheme 3.6. These are the same compounds which are used for similar studies in organic solvents salts and esters of Z-a-acetamido-cinnamic, a-acetamidoacrylic and itaconic (methylenesuccinic) acids, and related prochiral substrates. The free acids and the methyl esters usually show appreciable solubility in water only at higher temperatures, while in most cases the alkali metal salts are well soluble. [Pg.75]

The V02+ phthalocyanine [VO(pc)] has been the subject of patents as it is useful in photoelectrophoretic and xerographic imaging.887 It can exist in at least three solid phases888 and the structure of so-called phase II was determined.889 It is composed of sheets of parallel and overlapping [VO(pc)] molecules and no discrete dimer pair exists. The vanadium is five-coordinate and square pyramidal, and is 0.575 A above the plane of the four nitrogens. The V—N distances do not differ significantly with a mean of 2.026 A the V=0 distance is 1 1.580 A. [Pg.559]
