Hydantoin itself can be detected ia small concentrations ia the presence of other NH-containing compounds by paper chromatography followed by detection with a mercury acetate—diphenylcarba2one spray reagent. A variety of analytical reactions has been developed for 5,5-disubstituted hydantoias, due to their medicinal iaterest. These reactions are best exemplified by reference to the assays used for 5,5-diphenylhydantoiQ (73—78), most of which are based on their cycHc ureide stmcture. Identity tests iaclude the foUowiag (/) the Zwikker reaction, consisting of the formation of a colored complex on treatment with cobalt(II) salts ia the presence of an amine (2) formation of colored copper complexes and (3) precipitation on addition of silver(I) species, due to formation of iasoluble salts at N. ... 

Thrombus formation is induced by inserting the thrombosis catheter into the caval vein via the V. iliaca (7 cm). Then the copper wire is pushed forward 3 cm to liberate the cotton threads into the vessel lumen. At 150 min after thrombus initiation, the caval segment containing the cotton threads and the developed thrombus will be removed, longitudinally opened and the content blotted on filter paper. After weighing the cotton thread with the thrombus, the net thread weight will be subtracted to determine the corrected thrombus weight. 

Organometaiiic chemistry started some forty years ago and developed rapidly, particularly that part involving transition metals. This is likely to be the reason that in the majority of review papers either structures of stable compounds or catalysts are discussed but correlations between these areas of interest are not. ... 

In multiple coatings on paper, a coating of colloidal silica can act as a storage layer for reactive compounds. Thus in a pressure-sensitive coating, a base layer silica retains copper and nickel salts which react and develop color when the microcapsules containing dithiooxamide in the upper layer are broken by pressure (653).
