Package units

These processes are considerably more complex in actual CMOS fabrication. First, the lower layers of a CMOS stmcture typically have a twin-tub design which includes both PMOS and NMOS devices adjacent to each other (see Fig. 3b). After step 1, a mask is opened such that a wide area is implanted to form the -weU, followed by a similar procedure to create the -weU. Isolation between active areas is commonly provided by local oxidation of sihcon (LOCOS), which creates a thick field oxide. A narrow strip of lightly doped drain (LDD) is formed under the edges of the gate to prevent hot-carrier induced instabiUties. Passivation sidewalls are used as etch resists. A complete sequence of fabrication from wafer to packaged unit is shown in Figure 10.

The gas from the glycol/condensate separator can be used for fuel gas. In many small field gas packaged units this gas is routed directly to fire tubes in the reboiler, and provides the heat for reconcentrating the glycol. This se[>.irator is sometimes referred to as a gas/glycol separator or pump gas separator.

Trichlorotrifluoro-ethane (C2CI5F5) Used in low capacity centrifugal chiller packaged units. Operates with very low system pressures, high gas volumes. Also used as an intermediate in the manufacture of specialty lubricants. 

The boilers are normally dispatched to site as a packaged unit with the shell and smokeboxes fully insulated, painted, and mounted on a base frame. The combustion appliance and control panel will be fitted together with the feedwater pump, water-level controls, gauges, and a full complement of boiler valves. Additional equipment may be specified and incorporated during construction. Larger boilers may have to have certain items fitted at site due to site restriction or weight. 

Having selected and purchased a cooling tower, it needs regular maintenance, as does any other part of the plant. This is true of every cooling tower, from the largest natural-draft tower to the smallest packaged unit. 

A wide range of factory-huiit packaged units is now made, and covers most requirements except the iarger or more speciaiized instaiiations. 

The true packaged unit will have ah the parts of the system and will be factory tested in the complete state. There are four basic types ... 

The siting of a packaged unit is more critical than that of separate plant, since all components are together, and a compromise may have to be reached between the convenience of having the unit close to the load and the difficulty of obtaining condenser air or water, transmitting extra noise, or creating new safety aspects. 

Comprehensive application data should be made available for all marketed packaged units, to allow designers or sales engineers to make the correct selections for their purposes. However, it should be borne in mind that manufacturers or sales outlets are frequently not aware of all the parameters of an installation, and the interpretation of catalogue data has many pitfalls. 

Manufacturers test procedures for packaged units take several forms ... 

The energy input of part of the plant must be included in the cooling load. In all cases include fan heat, either net motor power or gross motor input, depending on whether the motors are in the conditioned space or not. Also, in the case of packaged units within the space, heat is given off from the compressors and may not be allowed for in the manufacturer s rating. 

As a filter element collects dust, the air resistance through it will rise, to a point where the system air flow is impaired. Users need to have an objective indication of this limit, and all filters except those on small package units should be fitted with manometers (see Figure 2 7.2). On installation, marks should be set to indicate clean and dirty resistance pressure levels. 

The heat reclaim packaged unit system comprises water-cooled room units with reverse cycle valves in the refrigeration circuits. The water circuit is maintained at 21-26°C, and may be used as a heat source or sink, depending on whether the individual unit is heating or cooling. (See Figure 28.11.)... 

The widespread use of packaged units of all sizes requires interpretation of catalogue data by applications engineers, sales engineers, and others, and by the end user. 

Smaller WT boilers are available as shop-assembled packaged units, whereas large boilers are constructed in sections and shipped to site for field erection. The largest field-erected boilers can provide steam, superheated to 1,100 °F (593 °C) and at pressures in excess of 2,900 psig. Some boilers operate at supercritical pressures (N.B. critical pressure is 3,208.2 psia).
