Oxidation Spedfications

Sophorolipid is a glycolipid, ie it is composed of carbohydrate and lipid. It therefore contains moieties of widely different oxidation levels and its synthesis from single demand carbon sources has a high ATP demand. However, the demand for ATP is reduced if a mixture of glucose and C-18 alkane is used. If glucose and fatty add is used the ATP demand is reduced further and relatively high spedfic production rates can be achieved. [Pg.57]

While the discovery of the catalytic properties of zeolites was driven by the desire to improve industrial prcKessing, the development of emission control catalysts was necessitated by governmental fiat. The first requirement was for 90+% removal of CO and of hydrocarbons, a goal which could not be met by oxidation with base metal oxides. To achieve the required spedfications during automobile operations, it was necessary to develop supported platinum catalysts. Originally the support was alumina in pellet form. Later platinum on cordierite was used in honeycomb form, containing 200-400 square channels per square inch. [Pg.71]

A more successful approach was that of Higashi et al. (1969a,b 1972). They blended solid add phosphate salts with zinc oxide powder. One add salt used was a predpitated hydrate of ZnH2P04. The cement was formed by mixing this powder blend with water. Work progressed to the point where three commercial brands of these so-called hydrophosphate cements appeared on the market. None met the spedfication requirements... [Pg.220]

The use of nanoscale materials in the dean-up of hazardous waste sites is termed nanoremediation. Remediation of soil contaminated with pentachloro phenol using NZVI was studied [198]. In a separate study, soils contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls was treated using iron nanopartides [194], NZVI and iron oxide have been suggested to be used as a colloidal reactive barrier for in situ groundwater remediation due to its strong and spedfic interactions with Pb and As compounds [199]. [Pg.233]

The natiue of a fatty add influences its fate. Short- and medium-chain fatty acids tend to be oxidized immediately to carbon dioxide, rather than deposited as TGs or phospholipids. The presence of double bonds ("unsaturations") in long-chain fatty adds influences the immediate fate of the add. Some evidence suggests that imsaturated fatty acids, such as 18 2, tend to be oxidized at a slightly faster rate in the hours following a meal than saturated fatty acids, such as 18 0 Qones et ah, 1985 Jones and Schoeller, 1988). More spedfically, about 2% of a test meal of 18 0 may be oxidized in the 9 hours following ingestion, whereas about 10% of a test meal of 18 2 may be oxidized in the same period. The mechanisms that influence the fates of imsaturated and saturated fatty acids are only beginning to be understood. [Pg.320]

Many ETs to an oxidant (or from a reductant) are accompanied by PT to a spedfic base (or from a specific add), usually via a preformed hydrogen bond. As discussed in Section 17.5, Type D PCET often describes the transfer of a net hydrogen atom in Nature. It is the specific coordinate for PT that distinguishes Type D PCET from its Type C counterpart of Section 17.4.1. [Pg.543]

The surface area of the compounds was not a determining factor for the catalytic activity indeed, the best results (in terms of boffi activity and selectivity) were obtained on the Ko and K2 samples, that were characterized by the lowest values of spedfic smface area before reaction. This is in agreement with the indications given by Misono et al. (13), who reported that the IBA oxydehydrogenation is a bulk-type reaction, where reaction rates are independent on the smface area. Moreover, this points out the potential utilization of these heteropolysalts as versatile catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation of bulky moleciiles, which could not otherwise diffuse in the porous structure of high-smface-area compounds. [Pg.476]

Finally, it is of primary importance to realize that, in practice, partides are always in interaction with a support. This could affect the structure, the shape, the electronic system and ultimately the chemical properties of the nanopartides. For large particles of hundreds atoms, this interaction will affect essentially the interface atoms. This is however different for nanopartides where all atoms are more or less under the influence of the support. With poorly interacting supports such as carbon, more or less hemispherical shapes could be expected. This is different with oxide supports. In a study of Pt particles deposited on a-alumina [94] using photoemission, we showed that some spedfic features in the valence band and in the O KW Auger transition could be explained by some direct electronic sharing between Pt and oxygen in the support. [Pg.546]

Crystalline PP products are particularly susceptible to irradiation, because it initiates oxidative aging processes that limit product shelf-lives, gradually causing embrittlement or color changes (spedfically, radiation accelerates the yellowing caused by phenolic antioxidants). [Pg.221]

Pathways II and III, found in various fluorescent pseudomonads, supply mainly md-(R)-3HA monomers from fatty acid P-oxidation and fatty acid biosynthesis intermediates, respiec-tively. The intermediates in these pathways are effectively converted by specialized enzymes to generate (R)-3HA-CoA monomers for polymerization. As shown in Figure 3, (R)-spedfic enoyl-CoA hydratase (PhaJ) and (R)-3-HA-ACP-CoA transferase (PhaG ACP, aryl carrier protein) function as metabolic suppliers of (R)-3HA-CoA from fr[Pg.160]

In case of catalysts with smaller spedfic surface areas, the formation rate of methyl radical is larger than the rate of deep oxidation. Ibus, an increase in the spedfic surface area is benefidal to the enhsmcement of methane conversion. At the same time, the C2 selectivity increases as well. However, if the formation rate of methane radical is smaller an that of its deep oxidation, the increase in the specific surface area might enhance the methane conversion with a decrease in C2 selectivity. The only case where the highest selectivity and yield of C2 hydrocarbons are reached is when the two rates are equalized, namely when the catalyst has an optimum specific surface area. [Pg.697]

They also, obviously, must depend upon the spedfic pair of oxidation states involved, but this raises some intriguing questions, to which we return later. [Pg.46]

The detection is usually carried out in a two-step process. In step one, the membrane is incubated (30 min-overnight) in a dilute solution of the primary antibody, which is spedfic for the target protein. The membrane is subsequently rinsed to remove unbound antibody, and another antibody is applied in step two. This secondary antibody is often linked to a reporter enzyme such as horseradish peroxidase (HRP). HRP catalyzes oxidation of luminol by peroxide to produce luminescence light that can be captured with a photographic film or a camera. [Pg.132]
