Orientation methods

The eco-indicator 99 (2001) A Damage Oriented Method for Life Cycle Impact Assessment. PRe Consultant. [Pg.268]

A first distinction which is often made is that between methods focusing on discrimination and those that are directed towards modelling classes. Most methods explicitly or implicitly try to find a boundary between classes. Some methods such as linear discriminant analysis (LDA, Sections 33.2.2 and 33.2.3) are designed to find explicit boundaries between classes while the k-nearest neighbours (A -NN, Section 33.2.4) method does this implicitly. Methods such as SIMCA (Section 33.2.7) put the emphasis more on similarity within a class than on discrimination between classes. Such methods are sometimes called disjoint class modelling methods. While the discrimination oriented methods build models based on all the classes concerned in the discrimination, the disjoint class modelling methods model each class separately. [Pg.208]

One of the problems with discrimination-oriented methods is that we need to classify each object in one of the given classes. It is, however, quite possible that an... [Pg.209]

This chapter is about how you design a component to conform to a given type (behavioral spec). Again, it might be a complete suite of software, a component part of such a system, or a small object within the software. Or perhaps it is a mechanical system or human organization that you have decided to design using object-oriented methods (in which case, let us know how you get on ). [Pg.656]

For a whole decade a research group at Hofmann-LaRoche AG tried, without success, to find suitable thrombine inhibitors by the coventional methods. But only in 1995 Weber et al." discovered two such desired products, 23a and 23b (Scheme 1.9), when they used libraries of 4-CR products for their systematically planned search, which also included mathematically oriented methods. [Pg.10]

Among the several 2-RDM-oriented methods that have been developed for the study of chemical systems, one of the most recent and promising techniques is based on the iterative solution of the second-order contracted Schrodinger equation (2-CSE) [1, 6, 15, 18, 36, 45-60, 62-65, 68, 70, 79-85, 103-111]. The 2-CSE was initially derived in 1976 in first quantization in the works of Cho [103], Cohen and Erishberg [104, 105], and Nakatsuji [106] and later on deduced in second quantization by Valdemoro [45] through the contraction of... [Pg.244]

In view of all the results presented here it can be concluded that the coupling of any RDM-oriented method with the purification procedure augments its applicability in a significant way. In particular, the coupling of the purification procedure and regulating device with the iterative solution of the 2-CSE renders this approach not only reliable but also highly effective. [Pg.253]

Although source oriented dispersion models are invaluable predictive tools, their ability to quantify the Impact of a source is limited. Receptor oriented methods of source apportionment, however, have evolved in recent years to the point where they now clearly form a new discipline of air pollution science. ( 1, ) This new discipline is distinctly different from dispersion modeling and has demonstrated that it can quantitatively apportion source contributions to particle levels. Receptor models are not pre-... [Pg.76]

It can be seen that SC2 and its working groups are the most relevant to physical testing but other working groups have, of course, an interest in tests to be included in specifications, particularly specialised product oriented methods. [Pg.33]

The more common method could best be described as the Equation Oriented Method (EOM). A good example of this method s use is by Schobeiri et al. [6], who applied it to detailed gas turbine modeling. Individual models are divided into two main types of elements, flow elements and pressure elements. [Pg.252]

The combination of these three developments has led to the on-line nuclear orientation method (0LN0). A further advance of the technique has been the combination with NMR, which uses resonant rf perturbation of the nuclear polarization, yielding moment values to a few parts in 104. [Pg.349]

For the investigator who wants to study electrode processes at depth, a number of more physically oriented methods are available, such as double layer capacitance measurements19 rotating disc and ring disc techniques 25 and radio-. active tracer methods 40a Spectroscopical methods in conjunction with optically transparent electrodes can be used for the study of intermediates 40b), as can also total reflectance spectroscopy 40c). [Pg.13]

Thus, developing diversity-oriented methods for construction of isosteric building blocks will make an important contribution to propelling protease inhibitor research. [Pg.278]

Finally, this method possesses a unique set of advantages compared to other orientation methods (electric field, flow field, mechanical field) it is clean and contact-free, it does not create any electrodynamic instabilities, and it does not... [Pg.57]

In summary, then, autocorrelation functions are useful mathematical devices which, when applied to velocities, tell us to what degree the motion of a particle at a given instant is related to the impelling force of the last collision. Their usefulness is mainly in molecular dynamics, the principal computer-oriented method by which systems are inaeasingly being analyzed (Section 2.17). [Pg.417]

The decrease in anomalous mobility of the proton in the presence of added alcohol solvents (see Section 4.11.2) could also be explained the larger size of the alcohol makes its reorientation more difficult than that for water and causes a fall in proton mobility by the tunneling and solvent-oriented method. [Pg.580]

In addition to antidepressant drugs, some forms of psychological treatments have been shown effec tive for treatment of major depressive disorder. These include cognitive behavioral psychotherapy and interpersonal psychotherapy (Weissman, 1979). These therapies differ from traditional psychoanalytically oriented methods in that the therapist takes an active role, the patient is expected to do homework, and the treatment is time limited, usually for about six months. Little data are available regarding whether the combination of medications and psychotherapy is more effective than either treatment alone, but data are suggestive of an additive effect. [Pg.501]

Where there are data available over a range of temperatures there is little to choose between the pragmatic approach and the more theory oriented methods of Cohen. However, Cohen s method probably provides a more satisfactory basis for extrapolation and it also provides a useful method for estimation of rate constants (see later in this section). [Pg.275]
