Operational partnership

JCP works with a complex array of partnerships , both nationally and locally. These can be strategic or operational. The operational partnerships include contractual relationships with an extensive mixed economy of for profit and not for profit providers who deliver most employment programmes. In 2005/2006 around one third of welfare to work provision was delivered through more than one thousand contracts with such providers (HMT 2006). In 2005/2006 external providers delivered a total of 135,107 job entries, an increase of 25% from the previous year (JCP 2006). [Pg.322]

A second sphere (B) encompasses the manufacturing plants and distribution channels for one of the products. This product could be seen to have considerable potential for improvement. Improvement efforts in the sphere would focus on operations in the production and distribution system. The sphere would be single product — all markets — production/distribution operations. Partnerships would focus on distribution methods and effectively linking distributors with manufacturing plants. [Pg.144]

Another useful approach is to attempt to get a broad review of the specification draft by operations, maintenance, and engineering. The specification must have an author who can write the basic document and who later edits the draft into the scope and language of the final specification. Single authorship, with committee review, is preferred over committee authorship. Only in rare instances is vendor participation in the specification authorship really justified, except in partnership relationships. [Pg.443]

Serious research in catalytic reduction of automotive exhaust was begun in 1949 by Eugene Houdry, who developed mufflers for fork lift trucks used in confined spaces such as mines and warehouses (18). One of the supports used was the monolith—porcelain rods covered with films of alumina, on which platinum was deposited. California enacted laws in 1959 and 1960 on air quality and motor vehicle emission standards, which would be operative when at least two devices were developed that could meet the requirements. This gave the impetus for a greater effort in automotive catalysis research (19). Catalyst developments and fleet tests involved the partnership of catalyst manufacturers and muffler manufacturers. Three of these teams were certified by the California Motor Vehicle Pollution Control Board in 1964-65 American Cyanamid and Walker, W. R. Grace and Norris-Thermador, and Universal Oil Products and Arvin. At the same time, Detroit announced that engine modifications by lean carburation and secondary air injection enabled them to meet the California standard without the use of catalysts. This then delayed the use of catalysts in automobiles. [Pg.62]

Industrial scientists, therefore, hold a very high public trust. There is a need to go beyond the requirements of scientific canons and demonstrate to the lay public that its trust has been upheld. A number of industrial firms have recognized and responded to this need. Wilder, of Eastman Chemical, for example, describes a proactive pollution prevention policy developed in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency.112 This work describes the key role of analytics in helping chemical manufacturers take leadership roles in redesigning processes for waste prevention. Since the analytical laboratory is a principal referee in the production process, there is always a risk that time pressures will tempt some members of the production team to "work the referee". An important function of the chain of command of the analytical laboratory, therefore, is establishing a clear operational policy to ensure that any such pressure does not reach the bench level ... [Pg.41]

CDHydro [Catalytic distillation hydrogenation] A process for hydrogenating diolefins in butylene feedstocks. It combines hydrogenation with fractional distillation. Developed by CDTECH, a partnership between Chemical Research Licensing Company and ABB Lummus Crest. The first plant was built at Shell s Norco, LA, site in 1994. Ten units were operating in 1997. [Pg.58]

Freedom CAR is a long-term research program aimed at developing a fuel cell operating system for tomorrow s cars and trucks. It looks to fundamental research and development. Freedom CAR replaces and greatly improves upon the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicle program. [Pg.164]

It is also important for chemical facilities to develop partnerships with the communities and customers they serve. Partnerships help to build credibility within communities and establish public confidence in utility operations. People who live near chemical facility structures can be the eyes and ears of the facility, and can be encouraged to notice and report changes in operating procedures or other suspicious behaviors. [Pg.222]

SOFCo, a limited partnership of Babcock and Wilcox (a McDermott International Company) and Ceramatec (an Elkem company), has tested a planar SOFC unit for the MEP program that will operate on logistic fuels. Honeywell tested their MEP unit on logistic fuel. [Pg.35]

Examples of functioning co-operation are partnerships between automotive producers, coating and installation manufacturers for the development and operation of low-emission automotive series coatings and co-operation between the employers liability insurance, IG Metall, lubricant manufacturers and metal processors in the creation of health-related standards for cooling lubricants. [Pg.105]
