In 1879 Lord Kelvin introduced the term nwtivity for the possession, the waste of which is called dissipation at constant temperature this is identical with Maxwell s available energy. He showed in a paper On Thermodynamics founded on Motivity and Energy Phil. Mag., 1898), that all the thermodynamic equations could be derived from the properties of motivity which follow directly from Carnot s theorem, without any explicit introduction of the entropy.

They concluded that the principal impact of DTCA is on motivating individuals to visit their physicians. During that period we had discovered William Miller s ideas on motivation in relation to alcohol problems (Miller f 983). We decided to try to develop these ideas, in such a way that they would also be applicable for heroin addicts. 

Even therapists who have studied all that there is to study on motivational interviewing, have made several video tapes on the subject, and are invited to do workshops on the topic, are by no means infallible. For our own benefit, and we hope for the benefit of other therapists, we have studied our own shortcomings. The following pitfalls are the most dangerous ravines to stumble into as a therapist working with the motivational problem of addicts. 

A complementary style of nationality-based tourism studies involves the direct assessment of what motivates travellers, how they behave and what they derive from their experiences. Several of these studies are comparative, while others focus on just one nationality group. The comparative studies include work that compares groups on destination image and attitudes, on motivation, on travel patterns, in communication style and on satisfaction levels (Chadee Mattson, 1996 Kozak, 2001 Kozak Neild, 1998 Reisinger Turner, 1999 Richardson Crompton, 1998 Yuan MacDonald, 1990). The nationalities compared are varied and reflect convenience samples rather than systematic research programs. They include Japanese and Americans, British and German, Korean and... 

One way to overcome the confounding influence of performance impairment in studies of the effect of DA receptor blockers on motivated behavior consists in testing for the action of these drugs in their absence (Beninger, 1989 Ettenberg, 1989).
