Well head pressures increased when injection was stopped at Well No. 1 for more than 24 h, apparently caused by a combination of precipitation reactions and backflow of sand. Injecting a slug of brine after every period of interrupted flow solved this problem. Movement of the main organic constituents (n-hexylamine, butanal, butanol, and phenol) was assumed to be slowed by adsorption. This conclusion was based on laboratory adsorption experiments by involving a different geologic formation (Cottage Grove sandstone) no direct observations were made of the injected waste. For current hazardous waste injection wells in Texas, the reader can refer to Texas Environmental Profiles web site for on-line resources for the State of Texas.185... [Pg.848]

The QCRNA database [32, 34] is an on-line resource of ab initio data relevant to phosphorus and RNA chemistry, and was specifically designed to act as the reference... [Pg.379]

By far the most widespread use of NMR in an on-line production environment is the utilization of downhole exploration tools by petroleum service companies such as Schlumberger, Halliburton, and Baker Hughes. Articles on these unilateral NMR systems are found in the patent databases, " academic literature, and on-line resources provided by the exploration companies. The references provided here are just a few examples in a very prolific field. The technique is applied in high-temperature and pressure situations and currently is used down to a depth of about 10 km (6 miles) to produce a picture of water/oil content in the adjacent rock formations as well as to derive permeability, diffusivity, and hydrocarbon chemistry information. Mobile unilateral NMR systems such as the NMR-MOUSE are also being developed in order to take benchtop NMR systems into the field to perform analysis of geological core samples at the drill site. NMR analyzers are also being developed to determine the bitumen content and properties in tar sand production and processing. " " ... [Pg.322]

PubChem archives the molecular structure and bioassay data from the MLSCN and other contributors. PubChem provides search, retrieval, and data analysis tools to optimize the utility of these results. PubChem further enhances the research utility of the MLSCN output by including other public sources of chemical structure and bioactivity information and by integration of this data with other NIH biomedical knowledgebases. The primary aim of PubChem is to provide a public on-line resource of comprehensive information on the biological activities of small molecules accessible to molecular biologists as well as computational and medicinal chemists. [Pg.218]

Today more and more information is taken from on-line resources. The World Wide Web has become a popular and reliable tool for research in many disciplines including polymer science. Rather than an exhaustive overview of the available web-based resources for polymer scientists, this section is interned to point the scientist to a few notable Internet portals that were useful in preparing this chapter. [Pg.936]

The choice of fundamental approximation, combined with the choice of parameter values, defines a particular SEMOT method, analogous to a force field in MM. Several established and novel SEMOT methods have been reviewed and compared elsewhere [54]. Among the three popular SEMOT methods mentioned earlier, MNDO/d is least widely available in commercial software packages. The other two methods, AMI and PM3, differ only in their parameterization. Since the PM3 method was parameterized more recently and more carefully, it is expected to be more reliable and will be the focus of discussion here. However, performance varies, so it should be compared with that of the experiment for related systems before putting faith in the predictions. Note that AMI and PM3 predictions are included in the Computational Chemistry Comparison and Benchmark Database (CCCBDB), which is a convenient, on-line resource for comparing theoretical predictions with experimental data [55]. [Pg.12]

The students prior knowledge of Excel is highly variable, and often rudimentary. To provide support for the students we have developed an on-line resource, the ExSite, as a teaching aid for students using Excel in science and engineering. Unlike other Excel support tools, it is focused on engineering and science type operations, and contains a series of structured learning modules and videos. [Pg.177]

The paper discusses the rationale for the assignment, both in supporting learning in soil mechanics and in the development of IT skills, how the exercise works and is assessed, and the value of the on-line resource in supporting the students. [Pg.177]

The last 70 years have been marked by a dramatic increase in research work on the formation of gas-phase and condensed-phase ion-molecule complexes. As a result of this interest, a large amount of research literatures, review and tutorial articles, and monographs have appeared. The present section is intended to summarize several early reviews, which contain the tutorial description, tutorial articles, and World Wide Web URLs. The literature [60] reported by K. Murray should be noted. This paper provides a more complete URLs listing and discussion of on-line resources available for MS. World Wide Web sites are tabulated for search pages,... [Pg.12]

In the method chapters of this book (2-11) we explain the physical principles of each technique, but we have tried to avoid going into the theory in great detail. For the avid follower there is extension material for all chapters available on the book s website (http //www.wiley.com/go/rankin/structural), dealing with topics that are more advanced or less widely applicable than the core subjects that we present here. There is a reference to each supplementary section at the appropriate place in the printed text, as well as an index at the book s home page. We hope that this facility will also slow down the ageing process of this book, since we will endeavour to update the on-line resource with information about relevant new instrumentation or developments in methodology. At the end of each chapter we also provide references to other more formal and rigorous treatments. There are also some worked examples on the website these are also referenced in the text. [Pg.8]

Material Safety Data Sheets. MSDS are kept both on paper copies and on-line through the undergraduate lab web pages. We recently created an index of all of the paper copies and are in the process of obtaining electronic versions whenever possible. One of our goals is to have each of the course experiments linked to the safety data sheet for the chemicals used in that lab. Our intention is to have our inventory list on-line and have each chemical name linked to the safety data sheet appropriate for it. Currently the best general MSDS on-line resource that we have found is through the Vermont SIRI web site (Stuart, R. 1997 http //siri.org/). [Pg.86]
