By far the most widespread use of NMR in an on-line production environment is the utilization of downhole exploration tools by petroleum service companies such as Schlumberger, Halliburton, and Baker Hughes. PubChem archives the molecular structure and bioassay data from the MLSCN and other contributors. PubChem provides search, retrieval, and data analysis tools to optimize the utility of these results. Today more and more information is taken from on-line resources. The World Wide Web has become a popular and reliable tool for research in many disciplines including polymer science. Rather than an exhaustive overview of the available web-based resources for polymer scientists, this section is interned to point the scientist to a few notable Internet portals that were useful in preparing this chapter. 

The choice of fundamental approximation, combined with the choice of parameter values, defines a particular SEMOT method, analogous to a force field in MM. Several established and novel SEMOT methods have been reviewed and compared elsewhere [54]. Among the three popular SEMOT methods mentioned earlier, MNDO/d is least widely available in commercial software packages. The other two methods, AMI and PM3, differ only in their parameterization. Since the PM3 method was parameterized more recently and more carefully, it is expected to be more reliable and will be the focus of discussion here. However, performance varies, so it should be compared with that of the experiment for related systems before putting faith in the predictions. Material Safety Data Sheets. MSDS are kept both on paper copies and on-line through the undergraduate lab web pages. We recently created an index of all of the paper copies and are in the process of obtaining electronic versions whenever possible. One of our goals is to have each of the course experiments linked to the safety data sheet for the chemicals used in that lab. Our intention is to have our inventory list on-line and have each chemical name linked to the safety data sheet appropriate for it. Currently the best general MSDS on-line resource that we have found is through the Vermont SIRI web site (Stuart, R. 1997 http //siri.org/).
