Off-gassed

Off-gassing of materials The liberation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other gases from building products or from a manufacturing process. [Pg.1463]

V-series agents react vigorously with caustics producing heat and off-gassing. Under these conditions, the amount of vapor given off by unreacted agent can increase significantly. [Pg.13]

Vesicants that have entered the body are metabolized, hydrolyzed, or bound to tissue and pose little threat of off-gassing. To remove agents on the outside of the body, wash the remains with a 2% sodium hypochlorite bleach solution (i.e., 2 gallons of water for... [Pg.199]

Hospital staff working in an enclosed area can be secondarily contaminated by cyanide vapor off-gassing from heavily soaked clothing or skin, or from toxic vomit. Avoid dermal contact with cyanide-contaminated victims or with gastric contents of persons who may have ingested cyanide-containing materials (patients do not usually pose secondary contamination risks after contaminated clothing is removed and the skin is washed. [Pg.248]

The dehydroaromatization of light alkane feeds (methane to butanes) into aromatics has come into prominence as a method of converting the unreactive light paraffins into useful chemical precursors. In many of the world s markets, light alkanes are very undesired off-gasses which can not be used other than as fuel. To accomplish this difficult transformation, catalysts typically are bifunctional, containing a dehydrogenating component such as Pt, Ga, Zn or Mo with an acidic zeolite. [Pg.377]

Residents can be exposed to household products by accidental ingestion, skin contact, splashing into the eyes, and by inhalation of vapors or airborne particles. Exposures can be short-term, resulting from a single product use or spill, to long-term, from frequent product use or off-gassing of volatile components. [Pg.229]

The third category of metallic artifacts includes collections of a most different provenance—such as scientific instruments, fine arts, historic pieces, ethnographic specimens, etc., which are usually kept in museums. Contrary to the belief that an object is safe once it enters a museum, certain storage or display conditions may lead to corrosive reactions that are different from those found in the natural environment [264, 265]. Some of these dangers come from off-gassing from materials used to build display cases and rooms, as well as air pollution introduced by visitors. [Pg.131]

Measured airborne and blood concentrations of ethylbenzene in several occupational settings are presented in Tables 3 and 4, respectively. Most occupational exposures to ethylbenzene result from use of products containing technical grades of mixed xylenes. No ethylbenzene was found from off-gassing of cured paint in a hyperbaric pressure chamber under normal atmospheric pressure, but under higher pressures, levels of 0.4-4.5 ppm [1.7-19.5 mg/m ] were measured (Lillo et al., 1990). Silk screen operations were found to entail exposure levels of less than 4 mg/m (Verhoeff et al., 1988). Ethylbenzene may also be present in low-grade toluene preparations (Inoue et al, 1995). [Pg.231]
