Two plant oil sources, namely olive pomace and olive pomace oil were selected by our research team because of their content in athero-protective substances (such as PAF inhibitors) and phenolic/polyphenolic molecules (Karantonis et al., 2008), null cost since they are natural wastes of olive oil production, and fatty acid profile, which makes them likely candidates to partially substitute fish oil in compounded fish feeds. The reference diet (fish oil diet) contained 100% fish oil (cod liver oil) and its chemical composition is shown in Table 1, while the two experimental diets olive pomace and olive pomace oil diet were compounded by substituting 8% of fish oil of reference diet, respectively (Nasopoulou et al., 2011). 

Evidence from well-conducted epidemiological studies does not support any meaningful associations between the intake of total fat, fat type or individual fatty acids and the risk of colon, breast or prostate cancer. Final proof of a null effect should come from randomized clinical trials. However, such trials seem unlikely because initiation of tumors may occur early in life, whereas the clinical symptoms arise late in life. The cost of appropriate trials would be prohibitive. Further advances, however, may come from improved dietary assessment and a better understanding of, and adjustment for, confounding factors in epidemiological studies. 

Other Reported Studies Brady [105] has reported on UF systems (start-up 2000) for mill water recovery and reuse. The Koch tubular HFP-276 (PVDF) membrane used removes 50% of COD, TDS, and total organic carbon (TOC). The UF operating cost is 1.6 per cubic meter. The plant operates continuously atarecovery rate of 98.7%. The feed stream and the null are not reported. 

The NOE may be quenched by the use of properly gated decoupling in the PFT technique, but this enhances signals which are diminished by the NOE at the cost of those which are NOE enhanced. Even then caution is advisable when adjusting the decoupler duty-cycle since a leakage of the NOE, due to misadjustment, may lead to complete signal nulling. 

The chi-square test applied on the data from Fisher (1989) revealed the results displayed in Table 11.5. The null-hypothesis could be rejected only in two cases on a 5% significance level. For New Zealand fanners the improvement in lifestyle and especially the reduction of input costs played a bigger role in the decision process than for the South African farmers. The remaining factors were rated similarly by the different groups and showed no significant differences.

The essence of the matter is that a threshold value kg for the Likelihood Ratio is derived from a) prior probabilities for the null and alternative hypotheses, b) a cost or... 

Most of the effluent and environmental radioactivity measurements are made using gamma-ray spectrometry. This is a far more cost effective approach than radiochemical analysis the Instrumental measurement can be readily automated, and detection decisions can be made more or less simultaneously for many radionuclides. The validity of those decisions, and of the corresponding detection limits, however, requires either that the peaks be Isolated and lie on a linear baseline, or that a detection limit model be employed which Is more complex than that used for "simple" counting. Baseline or interference model uncertainties should be Included, and an iterative solution is required to estimate the detection limit when spectrum deconvolution is involved. Details are beyond the scope of this chapter, but a relatively simple limiting estimate can be derived by treating the estimated standard error for a low level radionuclide peak of interest as though it were the null standard error, [12, p. 81]. 

Statistically, the null hypothesis is Ho = the phenomenon (say, global warming) has no adverse impact. If we reject Ho and adopt a precautionary posture but in reality there was no adverse impact, we would have made a type 1 error. Not taking any corrective action and later finding out that there is an adverse impact would amount to a costly type 11 error. 

The slurry weight concentration in a ball mill is 65-80%. Excessive concentration will cause the particles to stick to the balls and will decrease the effectiveness of grinding. The ball null may then freeze and spill out its contents, causing costly downtime to empty the null. For this reason, the weight concentration should not be allowed to exceed 80%.
