For all samples, the differential molar heats of adsorption decreased rapidly with SO2 coverage. However the steepness of the curve decreased with the nitrogen enrichment, suggesting greater sites homogeneity.

A commercial nitrogen enrichment system is illustrated in Fig. 17. Hollow-fiber membrane modules are connected to a compressed air feed at 70-150 psi. The feed in usually to the bore side of the hollow fibers. Oxygen (and water vapor that may be present) permeate out of the fiber into the shell and exit at low pressure. Hazards of Nitrogen Asphyxiation provides a number of case studies and highlights good safety practices. The bulletin indicates that failure to detect an oxygen-deficient (nitrogen-enriched) atmosphere was a significant factor in case studies. Many of the incidents involved a situation in which personnel were in or around a confined area, such as a rail-car, room, or tank. Char nitrogen enrichment which occurs at low burnoff at 773 K, has been observed during the partial combustion of shale particles (4). The results at 798 and 823 K are in agreement with the results of Song 05) for the oxidation of a 1750 K lignite char at 1250 K. It appears that the rates of oxidation of char carbon and nitrogen are equal at the temperatures of interest in practical combustors.
