In 1965 the Water Quahty Act established a new trend in water pollution control. It provided that the states set water quality standards in accordance with federal guidelines. If the states f ed to do so, the standards would be set by the federal government subject to a review hearing. In 1966, the Clean Water Restoration Act transferred the Feder Water Pollution Control Administration from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare to the Department of the Interior. It also gave the Interior Department the responsibility for the Oil Pollution Act. 

One of the new trends in chemical analysis appeared in the last decade is that the miniaturization. It becomes apparent in the miniaturization of analytical devices, separation procedures, measuring tools, analyzing samples and as a consequent the term micro have appeared. Further development of this trend have led to transfer from the term micro to nano one (nanoparticles, nanofluides, nanoprobes, nanoelectrodes, nanotubes, nanoscale, nanobarcode, nanoelectrospray, nanoreactors, etc). Thereupon a nanoscale films produced by Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique are proposed for modifying of chemical sensors.

Today, however, GC-GC coupling is seldom used to determine pesticides in environmental samples (2), although comprehensive MDGC has been applied to determine pesticides in more complex samples, such as human serum (19). On the other-hand, new trends in the pesticide market, which is now moving towards the production of optically active enantiomers and away from racemic mixtures, may make this area suitable for GC-GC application. The coupling of non-chiral columns to chiral columns appears to be a suitable solution to the separation problems that such a trend might cause. 

By the end of the 1970s, important new trends began to be manifest. First, one appliance manufacturer, Carrier, changed its initial advocacy position from opposition to appliance standards to support of those standards, because it found that the higher efficiency and higher profitability products that it would have preferred to sell were not doing well in states without standards, but were selling well in states with standards. 

This relatively new trend in PCM manufacturing business amounts to creating a polymeric matrix out of the liquid or gaseous phase directly on the filler surface which has previously undergone special conditioning aimed at generating active polymerization sites on it. 

Therefore I am very happy that Springer-Verlag has decided to account for these important developments by introducing a series of volumes on new trends in electrochemistry within its series Topics in Current Chemistry. The volumes will cover the important trends in electrchemistry as outlined above in the following manner ...
