The isobaric specific heat for a petroleum fraction is estimated by a correlation attributed to Watson and Nelson in 1933, which was used again by. Johnson and Grayson in 1961 as well as by Lee and Kesler in 1975. This relation is valid at low pressures i... [Pg.121]

During the course of operations such as filling and draining tanks and vessels, light hydrocarbons are lost. These losses are expressed as volume per cent of liquid. According to Nelson (1958), the losses can be evaluated by the equation (/ (/... [Pg.319]

The Octane Requirement Increase, ORI, is a phenomenon manifested by the appearance of knocking and is due to the increase in engine octane demand with time. This phenomenon is correlated with the increase of solid deposits in the combustion chamber. Although the causes have not been determined with certainty, some companies have patented additives which modify the deposits. The effect is to limit the increase in octane demand (Bert et al., 1983 Chevron, 1988 Nelson et al., 1989). [Pg.347]

Nelson et al. [34] determined from void shapes that the ratio 7100/7110 was 1.2, 0.98 and 1.14 for copper at 600°C, aluminum at 550°C, and molybdenum at 2000°C, respectively, and 1.03 for 7100/7111 for aluminum at 450°C. Metal tips in field emission studies (see Section VIII-2C) tend to take on an equilibrium faceting into shapes agreeing fairly well with calculations [133]. [Pg.280]

The simulations also revealed that flapping motions of one of the loops of the avidin monomer play a crucial role in the mechanism of the unbinding of biotin. The fluctuation time for this loop as well as the relaxation time for many of the processes in proteins can be on the order of microseconds and longer (Eaton et al., 1997). The loop has enough time to fluctuate into an open state on experimental time scales (1 ms), but the fluctuation time is too long for this event to take place on the nanosecond time scale of simulations. To facilitate the exit of biotin from its binding pocket, the conformation of this loop was altered (Izrailev et al., 1997) using the interactive molecular dynamics features of MDScope (Nelson et al., 1995 Nelson et al., 1996 Humphrey et al., 1996). [Pg.44]

Tables 5.17 and 5.18 contain a selected group of compounds for which the dipole moment is given. An extensive collection of dipole moments (approximately 7000 entries) is contained in A. L. McClellan, Tables of Experimental Dipole Moments, W. H. Freeman, San Francisco, 1963. A critical survey of 500 compounds in the gas phase is given by Nelson, Tide, and Maryott, NSRDS-NBS 10, Washington, D.C., 1967.
