In catalysis, the immobilization and heterogenization of catalytic nano-compounds on a solid support facilitates the access of reactants to the catalytic sites, prevents aggregation and allows recovery and reuse, as well as prolonging the life of the catalyst. Depending on the specific type of process, the reaction can occur in gas or in liquid phase. Table 5.2 summarizes the various interesting types of applications that use hybrid catalytic nanocomposite membranes for conversion and separation of chemical compounds in a single stage (Ozdemir et al, 2006 Biswas et al, 2011 Domenech et al, 2011). [Pg.230]

Adechanical stahility. ChemisoriDtion to tire surface, intennolecular interactions and crosslinking between adjacent compounds—if possible—all contribute to tire resulting stability of tire monolayer film. Lateral force microscopy investigations revealed tliat tire mechanical stability towards lateral forces on tire nanometre scale is likely to be detennined by tire defect density and tire domain size on a nano- to micrometre scale [163, 1731. [Pg.2627]

Because primary alkyl bromides can be converted into the corresponding nitro compounds by the acdon of NaNO in DMSO, primary alkyl bromides are converted directly into the corresponding carboxylic acids by the reacdon v/ith an excess of sodium nitrite in acedc acid rEq. 6-16 / ... [Pg.163]

Hydrofluoric acid is a polar material, as water is, and it behaves as an ionizing solvent when it is scrupulously free of water. Salts that dissolve readily in liquid HF include LiF, NaF, KF, AgF, NaNOs, KNOa, AgNOj, Na2S04, K2S04, and Ag2S04. Liquid HF also dissolves organic compounds and is used as a solvent for a variety of reactions. [Pg.362]

PLA/PCL-OMMT nano-composites were prepared effectively using fatty amides as clay modifier. The nano-composites shows increasing mechanical properties and thermal stability (Hoidy et al, 2010c). New biopolymer nano-composites were prepared by treatment of epoxidized soybean oil and palm oil, respectively plasticized PLA modified MMT with fatty nitrogen compounds. The XRD and TEM results confirmed the production of nanocomposites. The novelty of these studies is use of fatty nitrogen compoimds which reduces the dependence on petroleum-based surfactants (Al-Mulla et al., 2011 Al-Mulla et ah, 2011 Al- Mulla et ah, 2010c). [Pg.36]

Based on the working hypothesis described above, the author focuses on the chemistry of cyclic porphyrin oligomers (CPOs). As described in the next section, porphyrin is a multi-functional compound and the nano-sized closed space created by these molecules should therefore be of interest to chemists. [Pg.67]

The most intensive development of the nanoparticle area concerns the synthesis of metal particles for applications in physics or in micro/nano-electronics generally. Besides the use of physical techniques such as atom evaporation, synthetic techniques based on salt reduction or compound precipitation (oxides, sulfides, selenides, etc.) have been developed, and associated, in general, to a kinetic control of the reaction using high temperatures, slow addition of reactants, or use of micelles as nanoreactors [15-20]. Organometallic compounds have also previously been used as material precursors in high temperature decomposition processes, for example in chemical vapor deposition [21]. Metal carbonyls have been widely used as precursors of metals either in the gas phase (OMCVD for the deposition of films or nanoparticles) or in solution for the synthesis after thermal treatment [22], UV irradiation or sonolysis [23,24] of fine powders or metal nanoparticles. [Pg.234]

Chiral dendrimers are a class of compounds which offer the possibility to investigate the impact of chirality in macromolecular systems. Their specific properties are based on their well defined highly ordered structures with nano-scopic dimension (in this report we refer to dendrimers if the molecule has a core with at least three branches attached and a defined structure otherwise we will use the term dendritic compound). [Pg.136]
