Mustafa studies

More recently, Mustafa studied succinate-dependent mitochondrial oxygen consumption in rats fed either a diet containing vitamin E at approximately the normal American dietaiy intake or one with 6 times as much vitamin E. A statistically significant increase in oxygen consumption was observed in rats that received the diet lower in vitamin E when exposed to ozone at either 0.1 to 0.2 ppm for 7 days. In rats on the diet higher in vitamin E, ozone at 0.2 ppm for 7 days also produced a significant increase, but ozone at 0.1 ppm was without effect. Unfortunately, serum vitamin E concentrations jvere not obtained. 

During more than two decades (1939 to 1960) of their work on the photoacylation reaction, Schonberg and Mustafa studied a variety of different ortho-quinone/aldehyde pairs (Chart 1 Table 88.3). Among these numerous examples, three systems deserve further mention. 

The other study on human cord blood collected in a Kuala Lumpur hospital (Benjamin Tan and Mustafa, 2003) reported that only chlopyrifos was found in 18% of the samples at levels of ND-1.15ng mL-1 while other pesticides analyzed, such as lindane, diazinon, endrin, and endosulfans were not detected. In the same study, bisphenol-A and nonylphenols were detected in more than 80% of the samples at concentration levels of ND-4.05 and ND-15.17ng mL-1, respectively. Several alkylphenols were also found in these blood samples.

The above four sets of charging curves will be referred to as Sprycha , Cox , Mustafa , and Csoban , respectively, and they will be used to test different electrostatic models (combined with 1-pK model). In one of the original papers [28] the charging curves were not corrected to get PZC = CIP (cf. Fig. 3.1), but such correction was introduced in the present study. 

The toxicity of NO2 is often studied since it is a major component of air pollution however, a safe level is difficult to determine. A confounding effect is a certain tolerance to later NO exposure after a preliminary low-level exposure for a brief time (Mustafa and Tierney, 1978). NO2 levels of less than 0.5 ppm have been reported to enhance human airway hyperreactivity (Bylin et al., 1988). Toxic pulmonary effects of breathing NO2 at or below 5 ppm have been reported. These include altered surfactant chemistry and metabolism (Muller et al., 1994), epithelial hyperplasia of the terminal bronchioles, and increased cellularity of the alveoli in rats (Evans et al.,... 

The recent research focus of CVD B4C is to reveal the deposition mechanism under different deposition conditions and establish the relationship between deposition parameter and deposition mechanism, for which thermodynamic, mass transfer and kinetic modeling attempts have been studied by several research groups". The CVD B4C from BCI3/CH4/H2 precursor is a very complex chemical reaction process, and the B4C can be deposited by different mechanisms. Some reasonable deposition mechanisms have been established, such as Thomas S. Moss et al, and Mustafa Karaman et al, their experiments were performed under a small variation of deposition parameters and thus all of the B4C deposits had similar microstriicture and phase composition, which probably suggest the B4C coatings were deposited by a single mechanism. 

Finally, it has been reported (Mustafa et al., 1969) that albumin added to homogenates exposed to bilirubin lowered or eliminated the toxic effect. The toxic effects of bilirubin in vitro are more pronounced in brain as compared to liver, and this is attributed to the higher level of lipid in the brain mitochondria (Menken et al., 1966). This differential sensitivity of cells to the cytotoxic effects of bilirubin was also demonstrated by Cowger (Cowger, 1971). They studied the cell culture system L-929 and found bilirubin in a concentration of 2.5 x 10 m lowered viability, whereas ten times that amount of bilirubin was needed to produce similar toxicity in Hela cells.

Aluminum hydroxide was used as an adsorbent in a number of publications. Coprecipitation of Cd(OH)2 and Al(OH)3 was measured by Simon et al. in the absence [69] and presence [70] of NH3. Shiao et al. [50] demonstrate that cadmium distribution coefficients between liquid and surface are practically uninfluenced by the NaNOs concentration, while NaCl has a remarkable influence. According to Shimada et al. [71] and Packter and Derry [1], coprecipitation leads to the formation of Zn aluminates. Besides investigating various ions [62], Mustafa and coworkers describe sorption on a-Al(OH)3 [72,72], especially that of Zn, at different temperatures. They observed Langmuir isotherms and derived thermodynamic data. Kinetic studies were carried out by Simon et al. [74] using polaro-graphic techniques. In their experiments equilibrium was reached after 3h with two consecutive first-order reactions, in contrast to the findings of Lo and Leckie...

Mustafa et al. (1992) used two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography on polyamide sheets to identify PTH-amino acids that have similar values. The solvent systems used in this study were particularly effective for the separation of PTH-amino acids and provided a clear separation of all the PTH-amino acids studied with the exception of isoleucine/leucine. 

Extraction is a method used for obtaining components fix)m a solid mixture or solution. Generally the extraction consists of two steps, the material to be extracted is first soaked in a solvent to swell and hydrate it, and then the soluble components move into the extraction solvent by the mass transfer actions of diffusion and permeation (Mustafa Turner, 2011). The utilization of a suitable method for pectin extraction is significant to maximize its extraction yield and improve the product quality. Numerous scientific publications have studied the influence of extraction conditions on the physicochemical characteristics and functional properties of pectin extracted from various plant tissues (Guo ei al, 2014 Jiang et aL, 2012 Koubala et al., 2008 Levigne et al., 2002 Xu et al., 2014 Yapo et al., 2007 Yapo, 2009a).

The authors of (Taylor and Hand 1962) cast some doubt on all the previous investigations (Flett and Gardner 1952 Schonberg and Mustafa 1943) concerning study of the reaction of 2,3-dimethylquinoxaline with maleic anhydride, the products of which were erroneously assigned one of the above-mentioned structures 47-50 (Fig. 3.3), and showed thatpyrrolo[l,2-ti]quinoxaline is formed as a result of this reaction.
