Morphology and physical

Akhtar has studied the morphology and physical properties of NR and high-density polyethylene blends prepared in Brabender plasticorder at 150°C at a rotor speed of 60 rpm [53]. Films were molded between two chromium plates at a pressure of 0.34 MPa. The films along with mold were... [Pg.339]

Practically every battery system uses carbon in one form or another. The purity, morphology and physical form are very important factors in its effective use in all these applications. Its use in lithium-ion batteries (Li-Ion), fuel cells and other battery systems has been reviewed previously [1 -8]. Two recent applications in alkaline cells and Li-Ion cells will be discussed in more detail. Table 1 contains a partial listing of the use of carbon materials in batteries that stretch across a wide spectrum of battery technologies and materials. Materials stretch from bituminous materials used to seal carbon-zinc and lead acid batteries to synthetic graphites used as active materials in lithium ion cells. [Pg.176]

Materials known as interpenetrating polymer networks, IPN s, contain two or more polymers, each in network form (6 9), A practical restriction requires that at least one of the polymer networks has been formed (i.e. polymerized or crosslinked) in the immediate presence of the other. Two major types of synthesis have been explored, both yielding distinguishable materials with different morphologies and physical properties. [Pg.408]

Like many other fluoropolymers, Nafion is quite resistant to chemical attack, but the presence of its strong perfluorosulfonic acid groups imparts many of its desirable properties as a proton exchange membrane. Fine dispersions (sometimes incorrectly called solutions) can be generated with alcohol/water treatments. Such dispersions are often critical for the generation of the catalyst electrode structure and the MEAs. Films prepared by simply drying these dispersions are often called recast Nafion, and it is often not realized that its morphology and physical behavior are much different from those of the extruded, more crystalline form. [Pg.351]

The first step in the characterization of a new super-paramagnetic colloid is obviously the evaluation of its relaxometric properties, which determine its potential efficiency for MRI (27,28). Relating these valuable relaxometric data to morphological and physical properties of the particles may be carried out thanks to a proton relaxivity theory. [Pg.254]

The occurrence of stereoisomerism in polymers plays a major role in their practical utilization. There are very significant differences in the properties of unordered and ordered polymers as well as in the properties of ordered polymers of different types (cis versus trans, isotactic versus syndiotactic). The ordered polymers are dramactically different from the corresponding unordered structures in morphological and physical properties. [Pg.633]

Similar to cleaning operations, consolidation and adhesion treatments are usually under analytical control. Measurements of the chemical, morphological, and physical properties of the consolidated material are indispensable to assure the efficiency of the operation. Changes in mechanical strength, color, and gloss, as well as chemical composition are assessed. Studies of stability of consolidants are frequently performed by means of namral and accelerated aging trials. [Pg.7]

The Crab Nebula is the most noticeable object in our Galaxy, and the remnant of the famous Chinese guest star appeared in 1054AD, the best association between supernova remnants(SNR) and ancient guest stars. Before seventies, the Crab Nebula was considered as a special SNR with different morphology and physical features from that of most SNRs, Now more and more Crab-like SNRs have been detected(Weiler 1985). It is necessary to make a systematical investigation for the Crab-like SNRs, especially for those with central pulsars because they offer us more physical messages than others. [Pg.452]

Throughout the history of polymer science there have been efforts to improve (increase) the Tg to increase the useful operating temperature range of polymers. The preponderance of the literature has concentrated on mechanically blended polymeric systems with little component interaction on the molecular level. Where epoxy systems are concerned, the incorporation of additives into the systems results in many changes to the morphology and physical behavior of the material formed. [Pg.121]

Weibullian/sine function is introduced. Applications of this method to polyethylenes prepared by various conditions successfully explain the morphology and physical properties. Crystallisation mechanism of nylon 46 by high-resolution NMR in the solid state is also introduced. [Pg.204]

The application of laser light scattering technology to the study of the morphology and physical behavior of transparent impact plastics has been introduced. This procedure is an excellent means of studying saturated elastomer impact modifiers which have not been amenable to examination by other procedures, e.g., electron microscopy. [Pg.294]

Raman spectral-band frequencies for poly (thietane) as a crystallized melt annealed at 62° satisfy the rules for a longitudinal acoustic-mode frequency for deducing thickness. The morphology and physical properties of isoprene thietane block copolymers have been studied. Potential energies have been calculated for helical- and glide-type conformations of poly (thietane), and the conformations of the homopolymer have been calculated. ... [Pg.474]

Since the last edition (1978), technological developments, such as improved electron microscopy (since Ernst Ruska, 1931), chemical analysis by microprobe (since Raymond Castaing, 1951), scanning electron microscopy (since Oatley McMullan, 1952), automatic computer-controlled instrumentation and software for structure determination, have made it possible to carry out the chemical, structural, morphological and physical characterization of tiny particles of new minerals (on the scale of micrograms) within a few days or weeks computerized structural and morphological drawings can be produced within minutes. [Pg.24]
