Gemtuzumab ozogamicin (Mylotarg) consists of a humanized anti-CD33 monoclonal antibody conjugated to the cytotoxic enediyne antibiotic calicheamicin. It has been used to treat a subset of patients with acute myeloid leukemia in association with topotecan -I- cytarabine. Its most common adverse effects are myelosuppression, increased hepatic enzyme activity, infections, fever and chills, bleeding, nausea and vomiting, and dyspnea.

There are several questions that need to be addressed before considering the use of drug-monoclonal antibody conjugates.

Aurell et al. (2004) were able to demonstrate Legionella pneumophila cells in water using a double antibody technique with specific monoclonal antibodies conjugated to FITC. A very simple amplification technique, using a secondary, FITC conjugated, antibody was used to increase the fluorescence intensity.
