Although future minerals exploration will continue to involve high-risk frontier and novel geographic regions, the conservative nature of the mining and minerals supply businesses dictates that more traditional and pragmatic methods will be applied to ore search.

Commonly used solvents inclnde liqnid carbon dioxide, propane, bntane, light oil, triethy-lamine, acetone, methanol, hexane, dimethyl ether, cmde oil, benzene, isopropyl ether, toluene, tricresyl phosphate, methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl chloride, and bntyl acetate. In addition to remediation uses, solvent extraction has been applied in a variety of indnstries, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, and mining and minerals processing. 

The Snrbec-ART Environmental, L.L.C. (Snrbec), soil washing technology is a process based on mining and mineral processing principles that incorporates physical and chemical separation techniqnes (D12463A, p. 3). The technology separates and treats oversized fractions and sand fractions so that they can be placed back on the site as clean backfill. Contaminants are concentrated in the fines, and this fraction can be managed separately for further treatment or disposal.

UHMWPE possesses a unique combination of mechanical and technological properties and enjoys a variety of special applications based on low friction (solid lubricant), wear resistance (protection of metal surfaces), excellent chemical stability, as well as radiation and neutron resistance. UHMWPE is used in chemical processing, food and beverage industries, foundries, the lumber industry the electrical industry, as medical implants and in mining and mineral processing sewage treatment, and transportation.

Many of the applications of colloid and interface science to the mining and mineral processing industry can be found in the hydrotransport, flotation, and tailings processes.
