Methyl oleate, addition

The addition of an ester sulfonate of an unsaturated fatty acid improves the rinsing properties in washing tests. A mixture of 50% sodium methyl a-sulfostearate and 50% sodium salt of sulfonated methyl oleate (30 70 mono-sulfonate/polysulfonate ratio) was used [83]. [Pg.489]

C12 to C20, primarily Ci6 to ( is), used as surface lubricants in the manufacture of food-contact articles. The method, which uses ethyl palmitate (Eastman Chemicals No. 1575 Red Label) as an internal standard, has been validated at 200 ppm total FAME [185]. Other FAME standards (methyl palmitate, methyl stearate, methyl oleate, methyl linoleate and methyl linolenate) are available (Applied Science Laboratories) [116], Worked out examples of additive determinations are given in the Food Additives Analytical Manual [116], which also describes a great many of indirect food additives, such as BHA, BHT, TBHQ, l-chloro-2-propanol, DLTDP, fatty acid methyl esters, w-heptyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-gallate, sodium benzoate, sodium stearoyl-2-lactylate, sorbitol and phenolic antioxidants. EPA methods 606 and 8060 describe the CGC separation of phthalate esters (direct injection) (cf. Figure 4.2). [Pg.199]

Cross-metathesis of methyl oleate with 3-hexene under similar conditions led, in addition to the above products [Eq. (54)], to 3-dodecene and the methyl ester of 9-dodecenoic acid. [Pg.483]

Conclusive evidence for the participation of 7r-allylic intermediates in double bond migration has been obtained from a study of the nickel-catalysed hydrogenation of the isomeric olefinic esters methyl oleate and methyl elaidate using tritium as a tracer [147]. It was also concluded that in this system cis—trans isomerisation occurred by an addition—abstraction mechanism. [Pg.49]

The production of a,m-diesters from fatty esters can be realized via their SM as already explained, but it can also be performed by CM with methyl acrylate. The bulk CM of several unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters containing double bonds in different positions with methyl acrylate was studied by Rybak and Meier (Scheme 6) [43], C4 and C5 displayed very good activities with high conversions and CM selectivities. Among them, C5 showed the best performance for both methyl oleate (97% conversion, 92% selectivity, with 0.2 mol%) and methyl 10-undecenoate (99% conversion, 99% selectivity, with 0.1 mol%). The same conditions were successfully applied to methyl erucate and methyl petroselinate. The reaction conditions were further optimized, also considering the effect of 1,4-benzoquinone as additive for the reduction of double-bond isomerization [39], The CM of methyl 10-undecenoate and methyl acrylate worked with full conversions and high selectivity if five- to tenfold excess of methyl acrylate is used. Furthermore, using a 1 1 ratio between both reactants led, after optimization of the reaction... [Pg.14]

Bromine is added dropwise with stirring to 35 g. (0.118 mole) of methyl oleate (Note 1) in a 500-ml. round-bottomed flask. The mixture is kept below 50° throughout the addition, which is continued until a slight excess of bromine is present approximately the theoretical amount (18.9 g.) is decolorized. Methyl oleate (2 or 3 drops) is then added until the bromine color just disappears. w-Amyl alcohol (50 ml.) (Note 2) and potassium hydroxide pellets (40 g., 0.61 mole assuming 85% purity) are added to the flask, and the mixture is heated under reflux for 4 hours in an oil bath at 150°. Then approximately 50 ml. of the w-amyl alcohol is distilled at atmospheric pressure (Note 3). The residue on cooling solidifies into a tan-colored mass. Phe-... [Pg.76]

In this paper, we describe the apparatus we use to make phase equilibrium measurements on mixtures of conqponents with greatly differing volatilities, putting particular emphasis on recent inqprove-ments over the previous version (6-7). We also describe quantitative measurements of the solubility of methyl oleate in supercritical fluids which can provide a basis for choosing a solvent to separate fatty acids in edible oils. In the following paper (JB.) we explore the utility of cubic equations of state to describe the results of supercritical fluid - liquid phase equilibrium measurements. Some additional experimental results on the mutual solubility of methyl linoleate and carbon dioxide are presented there also. [Pg.87]

Tungsten hexachloride reacts with dry silica gel to form a surface complex with average composition ( i02)WCl4. Van Roosmalen and associates reported that with tetramethyltin the complex yields a solid catalyst for the metathesis of alkenes with the same activity as the WOQ4-SnMe4 system, but is less active for the metathesis of methyl oleate. The supported complex can be used several times without additional SnMe4. ... [Pg.118]

The addition of deuterium to methyl oleate catalyzed by Adams platinum leads to methyl stearates in which up to all but six of the thirty-six hydrogen atoms have been exchanged. Related compounds were also examined (59). [Pg.139]

It has been suggested that photochemically induced reactions may take place between biocides and biomolecules of plant cuticles laboratory experiments have examined addition reactions between DDT and methyl oleate and have been used to illustrate reactions which result in the production of "bound" DDT residues (Figure 4.14) (Schwack 1988). [Pg.231]

A novel triglyceride-based a, p-unsaturated ketone, obtained by photoperoxidation from high oleic sunflower oil, can be cross-linked with diamino diphenyl methane through the aza-Michael addition reaction. The first publication on the thiol-ene reaction of a vegetable-oil derivative dates to 1957, when Koenig and Swern published the free-radical addition of mercaptoacetic acid to oleic acid, methyl oleate, methyl ricinoleate and 10-undecenoic acid. That is, the synthesis of derivatives of a,(0-dicarboxylic oleic acid through thiol-ene addition [6]. [Pg.112]
