Metallic formulations

Professors Alex Bell and Enrique Iglesia of the University of California, Berkeley have used UV-Vis DRIFTS and Raman spectroscopy to elucidate the role of many catalytic systems ranging from mixed metal oxides to precious metal formulations for applications ranging from dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons to oxidation of alkanes to the role of exposed species on dispersed surfaces. ... [Pg.204]

Catalysts. - The catalysts that have been studied for ATR of liquid fuels can be divided into base and noble metal materials. The following summary will show that neither type of catalyst has been optimized for ATR of liquid fuels. The studies reported to date have largely been carried out using Ni-based methane-SR catalysts, simple (or proprietary) noble metal formulations. Much remains to be learned about catalysts for this reaction. [Pg.231]

Several of the early oxide studies have already been mentioned in the introduction. The copper-alumina oxidation catalyst, which finds applications for the synthesis of glyoxal from glycol and as the principal component of base-metal formulations for automobile exhaust emission control, has... [Pg.275]

Metallized formulations are also suitable for special missions (e.g. caves, tunnels e.g. in GWT), since in enclosed spaces the oxygen in the air needed for breathing for survival is removed. [Pg.256]

In this section we will discuss an example of recent laboratory work on the impact of sulfur on palladium catalysts formulations compared to other noble metal formulations. The laboratory studies discussed here have been performed using an apparatus which simulates the exhaust gas generated from a vehicle under several operating modes. The simulated exhaust gas is then heated to a controlled level and directed to a sample core taken from a commercial automotive converter. Quantitative analysis of pollutant and other gas species (CO, HC, NOx, COj and Oj) is performed using gas bench analyzers prior to and following the catalyst sample to determine the conversion efficiency for HC, CO and NOx. [Pg.26]

Metals other than those in supplement formulations are used extensively in pharmaceutical products and are added at various concentrations as an aid to health benefits, or as fillers or encapsulants. Magnesium hydroxide is used as a gentle laxative while aluminium present as hydroxide, lactate, salicyclates, acetates and alums is used frequently in a number of dermatological products. Metals in creams, lotions and powders are also part of the pharmaceuticals range. The metals formulated into pharmaceutical products are salts of p-block metal ions and the following is a brief outline of their use in medicine ... [Pg.231]

These are iron- and copper-based inorganic friction materials used for severe applications like tractor clutches, train, and aircraft brakes. Sintered metallic formulations contain lubricants like graphite, abrasives, and other property modifiers held together by metal binders like copper and iron. Sintered friction materials are normally fabricated as buttons that are riveted or fused to a carrier plate or cup. These friction materials are well suited for heavy-duty applications and find use in either dry or oil-immersed applications. [Pg.1073]

The washcoat composition is quite different to that used for three-way catalysts. The washcoat oxides used are chosen so as to ensure a minimal adsorption both of the soluble organic fraction and of the sulfur oxides SO2 and SO3. The properties of three different oxides in these respects are shown in Figs. 103 and 104. The composition of the washcoat is, together with the choice of precious metal formulation. [Pg.98]

Compounds containing the unusual difluorophosphonato-group, e.g. MC1(PF20)(PR3), have been obtained from a Michaelis-Arbuzov type of reaction of PFjOF with the platinum or palladium complexes MCl2(PR3)2. In addition, it is possible to prepare anionic difluorophosphonato-metallates, formulated as (RL)2 [M(PF20)4], from an alkoxy-difluorophosphine and a neutral complex MCI2L2. [Pg.197]

Improvements in the Ce/Zr stability have been achieved in synergy with the lower precious metal formulations. Formulations have shovra impressive stability up to 1100°C in a wide composition range from Ce- to Zr-rich oxides and doped Zr without Ce. One article showed that catalytic performance is related to the type of precious material-support interaction. For instance, Ce-rich oxides show improved light-off activity for Pt model catalysts whereas Zr-rich oxide with... [Pg.367]

Replacement of heavy metal formulations is influencing all development, and the introduction of cadmium/zinc systems in a more effective form is significant. Classically, stabilizers have used lead compounds and, on environmental grounds, manufacturers have volunteered to reduce levels to about 60% of today s usage by 2010. Calcium/zinc systems are now not included in the European Commission list of heavy-metal stabilizers, and these are seen as a key material for the future. [Pg.8]

Although commonly used solder paste for both THT and SMT production contains 63-37 eutectic tin-lead solder, other metal formulations are available, including 96-4 tin-silver (silver solder). The fluxes available are also similar, with typical choices being made between RMA, water-soluble, and no-clean fluxes. The correct decision rests as much on the choice of flux as it does on the proper metal mixture. A solder paste supplier can best advise on solder pastes for specific needs. Many studies are in process to determine a no-lead replacement for lead-based solder in commercial electronic assemblies. The design should investigate the current status of these studies as well as the status of no-lead legislation as part of the decision making process. [Pg.1308]

Much of the new reports on DOCs concern the interplay of precious metal formulations on cost reduction, HC oxidation, NO oxidation to NO2, and the formation of N2O. HC and CO oxidation is promoted by replacement of platinum with palladium, but NO2 formation is compromised. NO2 cannot form if HCs are present, as the HCs will reduce any NO2 back to NO. HCs are also instrumental in reducing NO to N2O, particularly at 200-250 °C if CO is not present. [Pg.29]
