The turbine undergoes three basic tests, these are hydrostatic, mechanical, and performance. Hydrostatic tests are to be conducted on pressure-containing parts with water at least one-and-a-half times the maximum operating pressure. The mechanical run tests are to be conducted for at least a period of four hours at maximum continuous speed. This test is usually done at no-load conditions. It checks out the bearing performance and vibration levels as well as overall mechanical operability. It is suggested that the user have a representative at this test to tape record as much of the data as possible. The data are helpful in further evaluation of the unit or can be used as base-line data. Performance tests should be conducted at maximum power with normal fuel composition. The tests should be conducted in accordance with ASME PTC-22, which is described in more detail in Chapter 20. [Pg.163]

If specified, the beginning of the mechanical run test shall not occur until oil temperatures have stabilised. [Pg.85]

Mechanical testing of the non-lubricated helical-lobe compressors is modified from the previously described lest. For example, API 619 only requires a two-hour mechanical run. The procedures and monitoring requirements are generally the same as previously described. A run comparable to the overspeed run is the heat run. The compressor is run on air at the maximum allowable speed, and the discharge temperature is allowed to stabilize at a value 20°F higher than the rated discharge temperature. The compressor is then run for 30 minutes. [Pg.413]

Spare rotors are frequently part of a new compressor contract. A deci sion must be made regarding the testing of the spare rotor. The recommended practice is to mechanically run spare rotors, using the same procedures used for the main. As a matter of logistics, the compressor is usually shipped with the last run rotor. If a performance test has been specified, it can be run before the rotors are changed and both rotors performance tested. This would not be economical, however. [Pg.414]

If this mechanism is consistent with the experimental relaxation data, then a plot of xp versus the expression in the brackets of Equation 35 will give a straight line with a slope of kjnt and an intercept at the origin. As shown in Figure 11, the data fit this proposed mechanism quite well. Values for i i0, reactant and product concentrations, and K nt input into Equation 35 are from the equilibrium modeling results calculated at each pH value for which kinetic runs were made. Normally a variety of different mechanisms are tested against the experimental data. Several other more complex mechanisms were tested, including those postulated for metal ion adsorption onto y-A O (7) however, only the above mechanism was consistent with the experimental data. Hence it was concluded that the bimolecular adsorption/desorption reaction was the most plausible mechanism for Pb2+ ion adsorption onto a-FeOOH. [Pg.128]

Witnessed means that a hold shall be apphed to the production schedule and that the inspection or test shall be carried out with the purchaser or his representative in attendance. For mechanical running or performance tests, written notification of a successful preliminary test is required. [Pg.51]

All running tests and mechanical checks shall be completed by the vendor before the purchaser s inspection. [Pg.53]

It should be possible to have access to all parts of the executable code (including access to ensure the correct behaviour of the run time support code and of the hardware fault supervision mechanisms) for testing by one or a combination of the techniques mentioned in this Safety Guide, of either the black box or the white box type (see, for example, Section 9.2.2 of Ref. [4]). [Pg.54]

This history of investigation of the mechanism of gekkotan adhesion has been paralleled by a series of studies that have attempted to understand the structure and function of the entire adhesive apparams. Other studies have endeavored to investigate the performance capabihties of the adhesive system of geckos in both static clinging and dynamic running tests. [Pg.113]

The accuracy of the CSP approximation is, as test calculations for model. systems show, typically very similar to that of the TDSCF. The reason for this is that for atomic scale masses, the classical mean potentials are very similar to the quantum mechanical ones. CSP may deviate significantly from TDSCF in cases where, e.g., the dynamics is strongly influenced by classically forbidden regions of phase space. However, for simple tunneling cases it seems not hard to fix CSP, by running the classical trajectories slightly above the barrier. In any case, for typical systems the classical estimate for the mean potential functions works extremely well. [Pg.369]

Add 25 g. of finely-powdered, dry acetanilide to 25 ml. of glacial acetic acid contained in a 500 ml. beaker introduce into the well-stirred mixture 92 g. (50 ml.) of concentrated sulphuric acid. The mixture becomes warm and a clear solution results. Surround the beaker with a freezing mixture of ice and salt, and stir the solution mechanically. Support a separatory funnel, containing a cold mixture of 15 -5 g. (11 ml.) of concentrated nitric acid and 12 -5 g. (7 ml.) of concentrated sulphuric acid, over the beaker. When the temperature of the solution falls to 0-2°, run in the acid mixture gradually while the temperature is maintained below 10°. After all the mixed acid has been added, remove the beaker from the freezing mixture, and allow it to stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Pour the reaction mixture on to 250 g. of crushed ice (or into 500 ml. of cold water), whereby the crude nitroacetanilide is at once precipitated. Allow to stand for 15 minutes, filter with suction on a Buchner funnel, wash it thoroughly with cold water until free from acids (test the wash water), and drain well. Recrystallise the pale yellow product from alcohol or methylated spirit (see Section IV,12 for experimental details), filter at the pump, wash with a httle cold alcohol, and dry in the air upon filter paper. [The yellow o-nitroacetanihde remains in the filtrate.] The yield of p-nitroacetanihde, a colourless crystalline sohd of m.p. 214°, is 20 g. [Pg.581]
